Winter Fashion Wishlist

Winter Fashion Wishlist | Colours and Carousels - Scottish Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion blog

There's nothing like the impending arrival of frosty mornings as a reminder of how woefully inadequate your wardrobe is for cold weather. Will that ever change? Probably not. Regardless of my impractical fashion tendencies, I can't help but see the change in weather as an opportunity for some new additions to my wardrobe. I'm nothing, if not predictable. I find it so much easier to dress in the autumn/winter months, with so many more options to chose from, and a colour palette that tends to suit my style a whole lot more than the brights that summer brings. The shops appeal to me considerably more when their tops actually have sleeves, and I can buy dresses that don't have ridiculous cutouts in the most unflattering positions. I hate open shoes, because ew feet, and I love being cosy - which is why you'll mostly find me donning a pair of pyjamas at any given opportunity.

I've not been as into shopping recently, possibly because my patience is waning, but I can feel that starting to change as my winter wishlist grows by the day. I think this year was the year that I became a lot more confident in my style, and I feel more comfortable trying new things than I have been in previous years. Ironic, considering I used to be a fashion student. Figuring out what I like and what I don't care for, as opposed to blindly following trend after trend, has done wonders for my self-confidence, but not so much for my bank balance.

I used to exist primarily in a uniform of floral dresses and skirts, but over the past few months, I've drifted away from anything that requires tights in favour of trousers. This time two years ago you wouldn't have caught me dead in any trousers that weren't my beloved black skinny jeans, but now I can't stop buying assorted lengths, styles and patterns... oops. I am starting to miss skirts now, particularly with it becoming boot season, and I want to try to bring some back into my wardrobe once again. I threw out a lot of my more basic skirts, so I think I need to build up my collection from the ground up and cover the standard fits before I move on to anything remotely fancy. I am partial to a bit of polka dot, though, so I think I'll need to pick up a cute little polka dot skirt before it's too late.

As per usual, I find myself favouring lots of black, white and grey, but I've also noticed that I'm leaning towards pops of primary colours too. Yellow was my thing earlier in the year, but recently I've been drawn to red and blue as well. Red shoes are appearing time and time again, and I think it's time I invested in a pair of classic Stan Smiths as well. I really want to find a pair with black detail, because I don't fancy the navy, but it has to be said that the green is really growing on me now.

And obviously, because I live in Glasgow, I need to think slightly more practical than usual. My knitwear collection is growing exponentially, and I keep eyeing up some more bold jumpers to pick up come payday. I have a cute little yellow rain jacket, which I love to pieces, but I think I need something a bit more versatile in a more neutral colour. I should probably pick up a new pair of black boots too, because my trusty Primark pair has seen much better days...
