You know how sometimes, you come across a new brand or a new product, and you just can’t stop shouting about it? I mean, that’s basically why I started this blog, to share the discoveries that I think are worth shouting about, and Lovisa is one of those. I’d never heard of Lovisa before seeing the new store open in Glasgow’s Buchanan Galleries and as soon as I spotted it I knew it was going to become a firm favourite. There’s been a lot of new openings in Glasgow this summer, but this one has to be one of my favourites so far.
Born in Australia back in 2010, Lovisa takes inspiration from high street and high-end style to bring on trend jewellery to their customers. Stocking everything from rings and necklaces to watches and hair accessories, they have a stunning range of both understated and bold pieces that are bound to suit anyone and everyone. They actually have stores in 12 countries around the world, having recently expanded into the UK, but the Buchanan Galleries store is their only Scottish venture. Glasgow is definitely the style capital of Scotland in my eyes, so it’s no wonder that global fashion brands flock here.
Their Glasgow opening couldn’t have come at a better time, really, as I threw away nearly my entire jewellery collection to start afresh. I don’t wear a lot of jewellery, mostly because I don’t have a lot of jewellery, and in the past, I’d found myself favouring very similar pieces that weren’t particularly versatile so didn’t get a lot of wear as a result. I have my favourites, like my lucky clover necklace and my beloved Pandora bracelet, which obviously stayed due to their sentimental value, but apart from those two and a handful of other token pieces, everything went.
On my first visit to Lovisa, on an impromptu shopping trip after an early meeting, I was sucked in by their statement earrings straight away. You’re probably sick to death of seeing those statement tassel earrings that everyone and their gran is wearing at the moment, but I’d been eyeing them up for weeks. I have quite small ears (yes, really) so I’ve always shied away from eye-catching earrings, but there was something about this style that I couldn’t resist, and now I own them in multiple colours… oops. Lovisa stock a veritable rainbow of statement earrings in all shapes and styles, and I’ve been going a little bit tassel daft recently. I’d abandoned my collection of cheap as chips Primark studs in my jewellery cull, so Lovisa has been the perfect place to restart my earring wardrobe. Alongside their more statement pieces, they also have a stunning collection of dainty studs and I picked up a couple of pairs of little rose gold plated bars which I wear in my ears most days.
When you enter the shop it feels like a treasure trove, the walls adorned with sparkling jewels to pore over. There are plenty of different ranges and styles, with body jewellery and a younger section to peruse too. I mean it when I say that I think there’s something to suit every style in Lovisa, and their pieces would make fantastic gifts too. I was half tempted to pick up some friendship necklaces for my BFF and me as a throwback to the days where we’d spend all of our pocket money on buying them for each other. One of my favourite little sections had to be their range with semi-precious stones, where I was ready for a little supermarket sweep style shopping spree. I really like symbolism and meaning within my jewellery so I couldn’t resist a multipack of rose gold rings with rose quartz details, which symbolises love, healing, comfort and peace.
Alongside the classic jewellery pieces like rings, necklaces and bracelets, Lovisa also stock a selection of stunning hair accessories and watches too. It’s a bonafide gold-mine for magpies like me, with plenty of little treats to spend your pennies on.
The best part, though? Their beautiful jewellery won’t break the bank. For so long I’d been put off buying new jewellery because I felt like it was overpriced in terms of quality, but Lovisa has captured my heart and my bank card with it. It’s ideal for picking up more trend-led pieces at purse-friendly prices, where you might not necessarily feel like investing a small fortune because you know that you won’t be wearing it this time next year. Not only that, but the shop is bursting with multi-buy deals and sale steals too. I can already see myself doing a lot of my Christmas shopping here, even if it is only August just now. With products that are affordable enough to justify picking up the tassel earrings in a whole rainbow of colours, but quality enough to last more than one wear, I think Lovisa have nailed it.
And just like that, my jewellery collection has multiplied in size, showing no sign of stopping anytime soon. I can’t walk past without paying another visit to see what’s new, and even though the store has only been open a few weeks I feel like I’m never out of there! There’s something about jewellery that makes me feel like I really have my life together, although the opposite may be true, and the right pieces can really pull an outfit together. I’m sold.
