It’s around this time of year that you’ll usually find me panic buying all sorts of skincare in preparation for the harsh winter weather. Whilst I do have my year in, year out favourites I’m always keeping an eye out for new products and brands to try, so when I was offered the chance to try out some skincare from Edinburgh-based Lucky Cloud I jumped at it.
Lucky Cloud sell a range of handmade, vegan & cruelty-free skincare with all of their products being made in small batches, using only the best hand picked ingredients to ensure the best outcome. The founder, Lucy Cardwell, started her journey by making lip balms in her kitchen, but her experiences with dry skin led her on to test out body products too. This definitely caught my attention, as I’ve had similar experiences with my own skin and figured that Lucy must really know what she’s doing!
Lucky Cloud were kind enough to send me three products to review, a body butter, body milk and a cocoa lip butter. The products contain zero parabens, SLS, formaldehydes or mineral oils and are made with your skin in mind. You’ll only find the best, most nourishing ingredients in their skincare range, with a big focus on natural botanical extracts.
The cocoa lip butter is the sort of product I’m never without at this time of year, especially when they smell as good as this. The formula is enriched with Vitamin E, Thistle Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Soya Wax, Coconut Butter and Cocoa Butter making it the perfect companion for nourishing, healing and protecting your lips from the harsh winter wind. They come in a handy little tin which is perfect for throwing in your handbag without damaging the product and the secure lid makes it easy to avoid smearing the contents of your bag with lip balm. The cocoa scent smells just like chocolate, which makes it even more appealing for a chocoholic like me.
As soon as I saw the label for the Sweet Orange & Vanilla Body Milk I just had to give it a sniff, and it really does smell as delicious as it sounds. This is a super lightweight formula, which is dispersed through a handy pump to cut down on mess and wastage. Not only does this smell beautiful, but it’s very quick to sink into the skin and leaves no noticeable residue making it perfect to pop on if you’re in a rush or wanting to top up your moisture levels on the go. As I do have massively dry skin at the moment I could probably do with something a little heavier, but I’ve been keeping this at my desk to top up my hands and arms when I’m working, especially with my love for central heating resulting in excessive dryness over winter. It’ll be lovely in the summer, especially with the gorgeous scent, thanks to its non-sticky nature and how fast it’s absorbed.
My favourite of the three is without a doubt the Lavender & Rose Geranium Soothing Body Butter. I’ve been using this on a daily basis and it’s made a really noticeable difference to my poor dry skin, which is exactly what I’ve been looking for! At first I didn’t think I’d really like the scent as I’m not a big fan of lavender, but it’s not as offensive as I’d expected and I find the Rose Geranium tones it down to more of a general floral scent. This body butter has such an unusual consistency, which is like a combination of a balm and a thick cream, making it so rich and soothing on the skin without being sticky. Like the body milk, this sinks in like a dream and leaves no sticky residue unlike many other body butters I’ve tried. I’ve made my way through this 120ml tub quite quickly, but it is available in a bigger 250ml size which I’ll be popping on my Christmas list!
Speaking of Christmas, Lucky Cloud also have a range of skincare gift sets available to buy on their site which I think would make lovely choices this Christmas. Their packaging is so sleek – and fully recyclable – which makes it look fantastic. Next up on my list to try is definitely the Sweet Orange & Vanilla Body Balm, as I’m just obsessed with this scent and love the idea of having a hydrating balm in my collection to get me through the winter, especially if it’s as good as the body butter!
