For me, Summer always seems to be jam packed full of places to go, people to see and parties to attend, which can be difficult on your bank balance if you like to buy a new dress for every occasion like me. This year I’m trying to be good and save my pennies by getting a bit more wear out of the hundreds of dresses I already own, or at least picking more “versatile” pieces when I inevitably go shopping.
This blue floral print wrap dress from New Look was challenging enough in that it’s a style I never would have considering wearing, let alone styling for two different occasions, but for the purse friendly price of just £14.99 it felt like a sign. New Look’s Occasion Hub is jam packed with outfit inspiration, beauty tips and style advice for those all important dates this summer – worth checking out if you’re stuck for ideas! I’ve been hunting for a dress for Paddy’s graduation and think this pale blue lace skater dress could be the one.
It’s worth noting that I had to size down in this as I had originally ordered a size 12, but had to exchange it for a size 8 which even then was a little on the roomier side and required some stealthy safety pins to keep in place on a breezy day.
Dress – New Look; Bag – New Look; Earrings – New Look; Shoes – Dorothy Perkins
If you follow me over on Instagram then you might have seen this outfit before, as I wore it to a wedding down in Troon back at the start of May. I loved the feminine, floaty feel of the dress which made it ideal for hiding both the tops of my arms, which I’m not a huge fan of, and my food baby from the meal. It’s perfectly suited for an evening of dancing, and when paired with my current favourite lace up heels from Dorothy Perkins it’s a great pick for any summer party. I was absolutely delighted to be able to tell anyone who asked that it was an absolute steal from New Look, I don’t think I’ll ever get over how affordable it is!
Dress – New Look; Jacket – Tommy Hilfiger (very, very old);
Bag – New Look (seen here); Sandals – New Look
Sunglasses – ASOS (similar)
I’d originally planned this outfit to be showcased on a day of sightseeing in New York, but on the day I’d intended to wear it the weather was threatening rain and thunder so it stayed packed away in my case. Annoyingly, it didn’t actually end up raining so I probably could have got away with it! I’d picked up both the sunglasses and the sandals in a huge ASOS order I made just before going away and they ended up being the only items I kept! I keep referring to the sunglasses as my “sassy sunglasses” because they just make me feel a little bit fancier than my usual frames… I’m so cool.
Seeing as I didn’t get to show this number off on the streets of New York, I think it’s only fair that it gets to hit the streets of Glasgow this summer instead. I’ll also be packing it for the holiday I’m planning on booking come October time, as the lightweight fabric will be perfect for exploring sunnier shores.
