The past few days have been spent in a strange limbo where I don’t really know what day of the week it is and can’t remember what healthy food tastes like or the last time I got properly dressed to leave the house… This little period between Christmas and New Year is always a bit odd, but I decided to take a couple of days to just chill out and start preparing for the advent of 2016. In celebration of this “fresh start” I’ve decided to reflect on some of my favourite discoveries from the last year, starting with the beauty products I have loved unfalteringly since they came in to my life.
Let’s start with the lashes. I was never a big falsies fan, but this year I started branching out in to wearing them for special occasions… or when I had the patience to put them on. After months of fiddling around I feel like I’ve finally perfected the application of false lashes – although I’m yet to tackle individuals… Back in September I picked up the “Fleur Loves” style from Fleur De Force’s Eylure collaboration and since then they have been my lash of choice. They’re subtle enough to wear on a daily basis if you so choose, which is aided by their lightweight nature and ease of application. I love the three quarter length as they fit my lid perfectly! I want to experiment with some more styles in the future but I feel like these will always be my fail safe choice.
When Nars Sheer Glow was first introduced to my life back in August it was love at first sight, or application. Fast forward a few months and I still find myself reaching for it’s natural finish on a regular basis. It’s rare for me not to be yearning for pastures new when it comes to foundation, so I think that’s a sure sign that this love was meant to last. If you’re looking for a foundation that boasts long term lasting power and a buildable coverage then this guy is the one for you.
Although the Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Move was quite a recent addition to my life in the form of a prezzie from Lis, it has very quickly become a firm favourite of mine. My first “proper” dabble with Illamasqua’s products has left me pretty impressed, with this super pigmented dusky rose shade being a perfect fit in my collection. Despite it being a gloss, the lasting power is really something to shout about.
It’s safe to say that Nuxe Reve de Miel has a somewhat cult status, which I didn’t quite understand until I tried it out for myself. Whilst it’s a little too rich to be a handbag hero, it’s ability to soothe even the driest of lips has guaranteed it a place on my bedside table for the foreseeable future. This winter I’ve been plagued with horrifically dry lips that my usual products weren’t even denting, so I’m really glad that I finally gave in to the hype and gave this a shot.
When the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette (which is currently on sale!) was first announced I wasn’t too fussed, but after seeing countless reviews and swatches I decided I had to have it for myself. I spoke a bit more about it in this post but the jist of it is that the versatility of the shade range really caught my eye, and I’ve never looked back since. This is the palette I take with me if I’m going away as it allows for so many looks, whilst not having to compromise on quality or space!
Until this year I only owned one MAC eyeshadow, but this year my collection grew quite rapidly thanks to a couple of generous birthday presents and the decision to start my own Pro Palette. Since it joined my stash, I’ve been reaching for Phloof! nearly every day as the shimmery nude is super wearable.
Another birthday gift, the MAC Satin Lipstick in Brave has been yet another firm favourite. Typical to me, it’s another dusky rose shade with a semi-matte finish. It’s that ever-clichéd “my lips but better” shade, making it ideal for an everyday face.
I first bought Soap & Glory’s Archery Brow Pencil back in January (review here) and it’s been my go to brow product ever since. I’ve been obsessed with the Supercat liner for nearly two years now and am yet to find anything as good, so it’s no wonder that I feel the same about Archery. Honestly, I think you’d struggle to go wrong with any of the make up from Soap & Glory and I’m always recommending them to people!
The Eye of Horus mascara in Babylon Brown was an unexpected favourite but after winning it in a giveaway I was blown away by the quality. The plastic brush separates and lengthens my lashes like no other, and despite not usually going for a brown mascara I love the slightly less harsh look it gives my lashes. I’m toying with the idea of buying the black shade too, I love it that much.
