Because who doesn’t love dessert for breakfast, right?! Healthy choices, as per usual.
On Tuesday I met up with the lovely Jenny for a natter over some sweet treats in the newly opened Jellybear, a dessert parlour on Glasgow’s St Ingram Street. I’d had my eye on Jellybear since they opened a few weeks ago and was pretty desperate to visit so the second Jenny suggested coffee I was quick to mention it. I like to think I made a pretty good choice… It was so great to finally meet Jenny, our chat left me feeling a bit more motivated than I previously was and I’m really excited about the prospect of some upcoming collaborations!
Jellybear offer a selection of savoury options, including bagels, sandwiches and jacket potatoes, but my craving for cookie dough got the better of me and I figured it was the best way to start the day. My excuse is that I was giving blood on the Tuesday evening and I had to keep my sugar levels up… okay? It didn’t stop me fainting but damn that cookie dough was worth it. Perfectly warm and chewy and with a plethora of toppings to choose from I’ve been dreaming about it ever since.
Luckily, Jellybear are open till ten (eleven on a Friday & Saturday!) and also do takeaway so I will definitely be popping in to grab some more the next time an after dinner craving hits. To add to my sugar high, I decided to have an Oreo milkshake instead of a coffee and oh my god it was beautiful. I rarely enjoy Oreo milkshakes when I’m out as I much prefer the ones I make myself but this was actually better than anything I could come up with. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!
Jenny put my breakfast choices to shame with a smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel with scrambled eggs and an iced coffee – ideal for the current sticky cloud that has enveloped Glasgow – which looked so good. I’ll definitely be back to grab a bagel at some point (and cookie dough for dessert, duh). The iced coffee wasn’t actually on the menu but the lovely staff made it anyway, which just adds to my love for the place.
The decor is an Instagram lover’s dream, with an adorable little picnic area on the upstairs level and Pinterest worthy quotes adorning the walls. I could have taken so many pictures of the decor. We went quite early on a Tuesday morning and were the only people in at the time, but I can imagine it would have a fantastic atmosphere when it’s a bit busier. They also have some outdoor seating which looked like the perfect place to enjoy one of their amazing sundaes should the sun ever return!
Whilst it’s maybe not the healthiest choice, Jellybear is certainly a must visit if you’re looking for a sugar kick in the city centre. It was surprisingly well priced, despite having a bit of a niche in the mainstream Glasgow market at the moment, and the staff were a delight. It’s always nice when you go somewhere and the staff actually go out of their way to make your life easier! I know that I will definitely be visiting… I’ll probably be a regular. It’s a good thing I’m not living in the city centre at the moment or else I would need some serious gym sessions to compensate for the calories I would most likely be consuming!
