I think that I’ve made my love for food really obvious on here, but if you didn’t already know I LOVE FOOD. Burgers are a particular favourite of mine, and my boyfriend’s too, so I have eaten a fair few in my time.
If you’re a Glaswegian then you’ll probably be aware of the seemingly unending number of burger restaurants popping up in town over the past few years, both independents and big chains. It’s a burger lover’s dream but it does get a bit too much… how can you ever decide where to eat?!
My boyfriend Paddy & I have decided to undertake a little burger focused tour of Glasgow – a burg-tour if you may – and so have given ourselves the task of trying Glasgow’s best burger offerings. It’d be a bit difficult to try them all (I can’t even imagine how much I’d weigh) but after making a long list of 25 venues we have narrowed it down to 10 to try out on this round. We might do another round in the future to visit those that didn’t quite make the cut, but for now we’ll be focusing on just the ten.
Over the next few months we’ll be visiting these ten establishments to sample their burgers and we’ll then be reporting back to you right here on Colours & Carousels! At the end of it all we’ll be deciding on some winners, so be sure to stay tuned for that.
We’ll be rating our visits out of 5 based on four factors: the quality of the burger itself, the variety available at the restaurant (e.g. sides, desserts, toppings etc!), the restaurant and finally the price. At the end of it all there’ll be three main categories in which a winner will be announced: Best Overall Burger, Best Independent Burger and Best “Big Guy” Burger.
The places we’ll be visiting this time around are: Bloc, Burger Meats Bun, Bread Meats Bread, Jacker De Viande, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Five Guys, Nice ‘n’ Sleazy’s, Ketchup, Ed’s Diner and Ad Lib.
Other places that didn’t quite make it to our short list include: Buddy’s BBQ, Meat Bar, Grill On The Corner, Cocktail & Burger (they were on the short list but have now closed down), Lebowskis, Slouch, WEST Brewery, Firewater, BRGR, Steak, Cattle & Roll, Slouch, Broadcast, Inn Deep & Smoak.
We’re starting tonight at Burger Meats Bun and the first review will be up next week! For the sake of our health we’re going to try visit roughly one a month but there’ll probably be some months where we visit more. I’ll be posting on my Instagram as we go with the hashtag #glasgowburgerthon if you want to keep up over there.
Do you have a favourite out of the Glasgow burger places? I’d love to hear what you think about the Burger-thon, plus if you have any ideas for future additions to the list let us know!
