Last week I headed down London way for three days to visit London Fashion Weekend with my university course. London Fashion Weekend takes place twice a year, just after London Fashion Week, and is open to the public and press alike for four days of fashion fun at Somerset House.
Dubbed “fashion’s biggest pop up” the event consists of exhibitions, panels from industry experts, luxury shopping galore and daily catwalks showcasing the latest and greatest talents in fashion. It’s a ticketed event with prices starting at £20, giving you access to the venue and the exciting events taking place within.
Whilst there, I attended a panel on the work that goes in to fashion & beauty shoots for magazines which was really interesting. They also gave some great advice on securing work experience and the best way to get in to journalism no matter what your background. I found this really informative and I wish I could have attended a few more too!
The catwalk show I attended was sponsored by The Outnet and showcased four key trends for this season – hyper florals, metallics, monochrome and seventies. It was great to see some of the key pieces and looks on the catwalk, I definitely have a few new additions to my wish list. It also helped show me just how damn difficult it is to take photos of a catwalk, but I was starting to get the hang of it by the end! I definitely need to work on my skills – out of 100 or so photos only 8 or 9 were clear enough to see.
Overall I’d seriously recommend visiting the event if you get the chance, I had a fantastic experience and it was a real insight in to the world of fashion week. Being at this kind of event always gives me a burst of motivation to get where I want to be in my life, I love the fashion industry and the creative talent behind it. If you have any sort of interest in fashion then it’s the place to be.
