Charlotte at the Cinema #1

It’s been a while since I did a little “What I’ve Been Watching” type post but as a Netflix/cinema junkie I thought it was about time I shared a few of my recent favourites. My lovely mum got me a Cineworld Unlimited Card a good few years ago now and I’m always making sure I put it to good use! When I first moved up to Aberdeen I knew I wasn’t going to have a TV license so along with a ton of my favourite DVDs I treated myself to a Netflix subscription which I use basically every day for TV shows and movies. If you have any Netflix recommendations (UK or US) shoot them my way!

Recently I’ve been watching:

The Decoy Bride – I found this whilst searching Netflix for something with David Tennant in (post Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode) and was very pleasantly surprised by it. I expected it to be your standard cliché rom-com movie – and it was, I won’t lie to you – but for some reason I absolutely loved it. One scene in particular had me sobbing uncontrollably and I would wholeheartedly recommend it if you’re after something that’s not too serious and a bit soppy.

Catching Fire – This was a no brainer for me as I’m a massive fan of The Hunger Games. I’ve seen this film twice now and am still as in love with it as before. It’s got everything: drama, romance, action, amazing costumes and some good ol’ funny bits too. Again, another film I cried at. I can’t wait for it to come out on DVD!

Love & Other Disasters – I can’t quite remember how I found this film and to be honest I was almost switching it off within the first 10 minutes, however I’m really glad I stuck with it as it was actually pretty good. Like The Decoy Bride it was a bit cliché but still enjoyable all the same. It makes me wish Brittany Murphy was still around as I love basically all of her films (she does actually star in a film that was due to come out last year, but still no sign of it). If you fancy watching this film it’s on Netflix.

Anchorman 2 – This film is everywhere at the moment. I feel like they’ve been trying to push it in every single way possible. As a big fan of the original movie I had high hopes for the sequel, which was again very enjoyable. I did feel it was a little bit gimmicky and that they were trying too hard to be funny at some points however it was a great film with some great cameos.

Frozen – Frozen is amazing. Best way to describe it. Me and my boyfriend took my brother and his girlfriend to see this last Friday and I just loved it. I don’t think the boys felt the same, but it was typical Disney princess and seeing as Tangled is one of my all time favourite movies I think it was pretty much a given that I went to see Frozen (the two are pretty similar).

Charlie Bartlett – This was a bit of a random Netflix choice, I decided I was in the mood for something with Kat Dennings and stumbled across this gem (Robert Downey Jr may have influenced this decision). It was a bit of a weird one, but enjoyable. I’ve only ever really seen RDJ in Avengers franchise films or Sherlock Holmes (this will need to change) so it was different seeing him in a role that’s a bit more serious. Again, enjoyable film!

What To Expect When You’re Expecting – Netflix kept recommending this for me and after noticing that Anna Kendrick starred in it I decided to give it a go. It was surprisingly funny and Anna Kendrick was amazing as usual. It made me quite emotional at bits but overall it was generally a happy feel-good film. Now Netflix keeps recommending me pregnancy films which is getting a bit annoying…

What have you been watching recently? Any recommendations?
