Christmas Beauty Bits

I'm not going to lie, I love having a good nosey at what people got for Christmas. It's one of my favourite posts to read come this time of year! I thought I would share the lovely beauty based bits I accumulated over the festive period and am ever so grateful for. Most of it will replenish my slightly low stock of current products - especially the Simple and Soap & Glory - whereas others will be exciting new products to try. I'm particularly looking forward to trying some of the bits from the argan oil collection as my hair is in desperate need of some TLC. It wouldn't be Christmas without lots of Soap & Glory or Lush products and this year my lovely cousin got me the yummy Buttercup box. I've also ordered a fair bit of stuff from the Lush sale so expect to see that when it arrives! Surprisingly I didn't get any make up this year, which is definitely for the best considering my current collection.

What beauty bits did you get over Christmas? Any good beauty sale buys?

A Little Holiday

The TV was in the mirror?! So awesome

Forever 21 dress // New Look boots

Topman brogues, jeans and jumper // Matalan shirt // River Island blazer

Topshop shirt // eBay leggings // Primark necklace // Vans

New Look shirt // Fred Perry jumper // Cheap Monday jacket // Topman jeans // Converse

This Christmas I was lucky enough to be given a trip to see The Lion King on stage through in Edinburgh by my ever so lovely boyfriend. I'd been wanting to go through to Edinburgh to visit their Winter Wonderland and so grabbed the opportunity the second it presented itself!

Paddy had nabbed a deal on Itison for a night at the Murrayfield Hotel which was absolutely amazing - the room was gorgeous. I miss the bed already, had the best night's sleep ever! The staff were incredibly helpful when it came to booking taxis (the weather was horrific) and we grabbed a couple of delicious cocktails in the bar before we headed out. Breakfast the next morning was also amazing, I had the yummiest french toast ever. Overall it was a fantastic stay in the hotel and I definitely want to visit again - budget allowing.

Before the show on Friday night we went for dinner at an absolutely lovely little Italian called La Piazza where we both had our standard pizza (lots and lots of cheese). I would definitely recommend the restaurant, the service was great and the food was impeccable. Afterwards we jumped in a taxi to the Playhouse where we had a drink in the bar before heading in to the theatre.

The show itself was amazing. Seriously - if you get the chance to go and see it you should grab it! I was absolutely awestruck with the amount of work and talent that went in to producing it and I'm so happy I finally got to experience it. Such an amazing Christmas present!

On the Saturday the weather was a lot nicer so after breakfast and checking out we decided to head in to the city centre to do a bit of sale shopping and visit the Christmas markets. Whilst it was sunnier, it was a hell of a lot colder and we had to jump in to H&M to grab some cheap layers to keep hypothermia at bay. I didn't really see much in the sales that I fancied, I had spotted a pair of Vans in the Vans store the day before but when I went back they had sold out - booooooo. I've ordered a fair bit online anyway so just waiting for that to arrive!

After our pretty awful experience at Garfunkel's in London we had been kindly compensated with some vouchers for another meal and decided to put these to use in the Edinburgh restaurant for lunch on the Saturday afternoon. Luckily, they have totally redeemed themselves with excellent service and fantastic food! If you're in Edinburgh and on the Royal Mile you should definitely pay them a visit.

When I was absolutely stuffed full of steak and potato skins we wandered down to the Winter Wonderland in Princes Street Gardens. It was basically lots of lovely little Christmas-y stalls selling gifts, decorations and yummy food. In true Charlotte fashion - despite my already full stomach - I just had to have a crepe. At this point we were absolutely frozen so decided to jump on the train home back to the warmth.

I had such a lovely weekend in Edinburgh, although it's close by it's a city I don't visit too often (I tend to favour Glasgow) and I really wish I did go through more.

Desert Island Essentials #23

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, and this week it’s Sally from Queenie and the Dew.

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?

For moments of contemplation: Comptine d'un Autre Ete from the Amelie soundtrack
For angry moments: Heartbeat by Childish Gambino
For foot-tapping moments: Garden by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs
For gazing out at the sunset moments: Such Great Heights by Iron and Wine
For getting stuff done moments: Something Good Can Work by Tourist History

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?

Without a doubt it would be Breaking Bad. I would be utterly absorbed in the plot and completely distracted from the sharks circling my little island!

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

For purely educational reasons it would have to be Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. I'd like to stomp around my island saying things like 'swashbucklin', 'me hearties', 'blackguard' and 'yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!'

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?

I'm not sure there's anything I wouldn't get sick off after a while! I'd have to go for a beef casserole with plenty of veggies and potatoes. For a drink I'd settle with Ribena :)

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?

Probably a really nice face moisturiser to keep dry skin at bay!

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?

Blog-wise I'd want something very versatile, so I'd choose Buzzfeed (is that technically a blog?) for endless entertainment and mind stimulation.

My You Tube channel would be Carrie from It's Way Past My Bed Time. She is absolutely hilarious and bound to cheer me up on the duller days!

If you want to be part of my Desert Island Essentials series e-mail me at coloursandcarouselsblog@gmail.com with the subject ‘Desert Island Essentials’ and I will add you to my list. <3

Sharing the Love - 2013

Instead of doing a wee Share the Love for December alone I thought I'd go for my favourites over the entire year! I've read hundreds of lovely blogs this year but I've had some firm favourites that I wanted to share with you all. Basically - if you're after a decent read these are your ladies.

What blogs have you been loving all year long?

Empties #2

For a change I actually finished a few products within the same week which can only mean one thing.... spending loads of money to replace them woooo empties post!

L'oreal Elvive Nutri Gloss Shine conditioner - what is it with always finishing conditioner when you still have half a bottle of shampoo left? At the moment I just kinda buy shampoo & conditioner based on what's on offer so although this was a perfectly adequate product I've not repurchased it. Instead I've gone for one of my favourites which is the Boots Coconut and Almond range seeing as it's affordable and I had a voucher. If this was on offer again in the future I probably would repurchase.

Umberto Giannini Curl Friends Natural Curls Styling Spray (mouthful...) - another product that I bought on offer and had a voucher for. If you've been hanging about for a while you'll probably know of my love for the John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Styling Spray (equally as much of a mouthful) and this has not replaced that, however I've found that the John Frieda spray works best for my hair when it's still wet whereas the Umberto Giannini product is a whole lot better when it's dry. It's a bit pricier but is often on offer and when I repurchased it last week I got extra points too!

Macleans Total Health Whitening toothpaste - I'm never too bothered about what toothpaste I buy (as long as it's not peppermint, euch) so I kinda just picked this up and hoped for the best. I think it's a decent whitening toothpaste but I'm not a big fan of the taste as it has a hint of cough medicine to it... weird. I've not repurchased this but wouldn't necessarily be put off doing so in the future.

Collection Lasting Perfection concealer - my holy grail concealer. It's perfect for me at the moment and I shall always repurchase. In fact I have just purchased 3 as they were on 3 for 2 and I thought it would be rude not to.

Dove Go Fresh Antiperspirant Deodorant in Pomegranate & Lemon - I'm not sure why I keep returning to this deodorant time after time, but I think it's the lovely smell. I'm not 100% loyal to this as I have bought a slightly cheaper deodorant from Savers to replace this but I probably will go back to this afterwards as it's just a great product all round.

Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Body Butter - any of the Body Shop's pink grapefruit range is a winner for me and I'm pretty gutted this is finished now. I bought this on a half price offer and I definitely begrudge paying full price for it however if it pops up on sale (ideally alongside the scrub) I will eagerly repurchase!

What have you finished lately?

Clothes Show Haul

£5 each

£10 for 5 nail polishes, wooooo!

The free goody bag with the nail polishes

£10 for all of this, yassss
I bought a lot of nail polish - but who can turn down a grand total of 6 Models Own nail polishes for just a tenner?! Barry M was a similar story...

So as I have mentioned before I popped down to Birmingham last week to visit the Clothes Show Live with uni and I did a wee bit of shopping. It was a bit of an overwhelming experience with lots of sales people shouting things and getting you to try things but I was quite well behaved... kind of. I only bought two tops for a bargain £5 each and a gorgeous statement necklace for just £3! I probably would have bought a lot more if I'd had more money, time, and wasn't flying with just carry on luggage.

Barry M were doing a deal where you paid a tenner and got a goody bag with five random polishes and some other make up bits. I was a bit cautious about it because I didn't get to pick the polishes but I don't have any of these and I did really want the pink one when it was out in summer. Models Own were doing a similar deal but you got to choose the 5 polishes so I was definitely up for that. They didn't seem to have Utopia which was the only one I actually wanted but I love the ones I did go for - especially the Velvet Goth ones. The goody bag for Models Own was actually really good with their limited edition Clothes Show polish, some more make up (all of which I'll probably use!) and a copy of Heat which I donated to Eilidh for the plane.

That's definitely quenched my thirst for shopping until after Christmas at least! Now I just need to get my Shellac taken off so I can actually try out all of the nail polishes properly...
