Halloween is over, and Bonfire Night is out of the way, so it's time to get Christmas on the road. Yup, this year I'm being one of "those people" who jump on the Christmas bandwagon nice and early. You see, the thing is, this year is my first Christmas where I'm not working in retail - and that is a big deal for me. Christmas is completely different when you spend every waking hour trapped in a building full of blinding fluorescent bulbs with the same six Christmas covers on repeat, prepping for the Boxing Day sales and giving up the precious time spent with family over the festive season to deal with people who just have to exchange their unwanted gifts first thing on the 26th. This year, Christmas is feeling a lot less stressful, and I'm pretty damn excited about it.

And who wouldn't feel festive, when greeted with this stunning Food Halls Collection Hamper from Harrods? I find that at Christmas I tend to be in quite a generous mood - both with presents and with treats for myself - so I love to indulge in something a little bit more luxurious. The Food Halls Collection Hamper is just one of the many Luxury Christmas Hampers on offer at Harrods this year and is packed full of delicious treats from their iconic food hall. With a selection of delectable biscuits, both savoury and sweet, alongside luxurious preserves and that all important wine - this is the perfect hamper for a festive night in with your nearest and dearest. The parmesan and poppyseed biscuits are just beautiful when paired with the ale and apple chutney! And they aren't too shabby when paired with a good cheese (or three) either. This hamper would be the perfect gift for someone who's a bit of a foodie, and if anyone fancies treating me to The Christmas Carol hamper I would be your best friend forever.

I'm ready and raring to get festive, with a good few weeks ahead to fill with fun Christmas activities. My diary isn't actually all that full yet, but I'm sure that will change, as I have a lot I'd like to tick off of my festive to-do list! My first semester of college finishes up at the end of November, too, and despite having classes in December I'm feeling a lot more relaxed about coursework at the moment - which makes for an all-around happier me! So, in the spirit of Christmas, here are five of the things I'm most looking forward to this festive season...

Family

By far the best thing about Christmas is getting to spend quality time with my family. We're a busy bunch, but we always make time for Christmas. I miss the days where we travelled down south to spend the holidays with the rest of the family in Manchester, but it's not as easy these days with everyone scattered all over the place. Regardless, there's something so special about putting up the Christmas tree together and settling down with a festive film. Christmas Day is always about family, and that's the way I like it. Opening presents together in the morning and sitting down to lunch in the dining room - which is a rare occasion for us! Plus, this year, it's my wee kittens first Christmas with us. I still call them kittens, although they're over a year old now, but with their boisterous behaviour, it's set to be a fun festive season all around. I'm wondering how receptive they'll be to Santa hats and glittery bow ties...

Food

I mean hello, have you seen the range of food on offer at this time of year?! Chocolate and cheese galore, yes please. This one is a given, seeing as I'm a huge food fan at any time of year, but there's something about seeing all of the festive feasts in the shops that gives me a surge of Christmas cheer. I eat turkey and cranberry sauce throughout the year, but being able to purchase a turkey sandwich for my lunch from the shops is a dream come true. Plus, a ready supply of Terry's Chocolate Oranges never goes amiss. For the next few weeks, you'll mostly find me tucked up on the sofa with a big ol' box of chocolates or dreaming of the camembert starter on Christmas day itself. An honorary mention must be given to the array of Christmas drinks available from various coffee shops, too, as you can't beat a wee festive hot chocolate whilst you're wandering around the shops in search of the perfect present.

Festivities

This year I'm really looking forward to the weekends in the run-up to Christmas, which I'm planning on filling with trips to Christmas craft markets - like Glasgow's Etsy Made Local and the BAad Christmas Market - and other assorted festive days out. I definitely want to make the journey through to Edinburgh to spend the day exploring their Christmas markets and seeing all of the lights, and if I can get tickets to one of the Itison Drive-In Movies that would be great, I went a couple of years ago and loved it, but they're all sold out for this year. We'll see! I kind of just want to do every cliched Christmas outing going, with lots of mince pies and as much overpriced street food at outdoor markets as possible. Who knows, I might even go on a night out! Probably not, but I have bought a dress just in case.

Friends

I love spending time with my friends, but it can be difficult to squeeze in quality time together with our busy schedules. It doesn't help that Geraldine now lives in Manchester, but I'll take any excuse for a trip down Mancunian way. I'm excited to spend some more time with my friends over the festive season, even if it is just a quick catch up over a seasonal hot chocolate. Tis the season to spend time with those you love, and I'll certainly be making plenty of time for my nearest and dearest now that I don't need to sacrifice my weekends to the retail gods. Plus, it'll be nice to have people to help me take photos for my Instagram, y'know.

Films & Fun

I absolutely love a cosy night in, no matter what the season, but there's something really special about sticking on a festive film and curling up on the couch by the Christmas tree. Christmas films are the best, and I'm ready to break out Love Actually already. I'm planning on making my way through the majority of Netflix's Christmas section over the coming weeks, as well as snuggling up with some of my all-time favourites like Elf and Arthur Christmas.

At Christmas, my family like to break out the board games, or at least I do. We always try to play some sort of board game on Christmas Day itself and it's something I look forward to every year. If not a board game, then we're still big fans of the classic Nintendo Wii, and although we do get a little bit competitive it just wouldn't be Christmas without it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get started on my Christmas playlist, which I'll be listening to on repeat until further notice.

What are you looking forward to most this Christmas?
