I swear I blinked and it's autumn. Last night I looked up from my laptop and it was dark at 7pm, this morning I had to don my onesie upon getting out of bed because it was just too damn cold not to, and on my bus journey into the city, the motorway was lined with trees on the cusp of turning orange. I love autumn, but it's taken me by surprise this year. I know I've been complaining about the distinctly non-summery weather for weeks, but that's nothing new in a country where it rains most days. Now that the dark evenings are creeping in and the television guide is full of gripping thrillers, it really feels like the seasons have switched.

As someone who enjoys staying in a whole lot more than going out, I welcome the thought of cosy evenings curled up on the couch with open arms. Although I hate being cold with a burning passion, and have already considered donning gloves for my commute, there's something that warms my heart when it comes to autumn. The fiery colour palette on my morning walk to the bus stop has me dreaming of big fluffy jumpers and huge cups of tea, and the pitch black nights create the perfect excuse to get tucked up in bed with a good book that little bit earlier.

Autumn is the season that seems to fly by every single year and, looking at my calendar, I can see why. Although leaving my retail job means that I have my weekends back to do as I please, I've been filling them up with events and little trips away. This coming weekend I'm away to Peebles with Paddy and his family for the September Weekend, and then I also have a couple of trips in mind for the coming months to visit Geraldine, who just moved to Manchester to start her masters at the weekend. Alongside jaunts around the country, I've been making the most of having a bit more free time to fit in catch ups with my nearest and dearest, with lots of dinner dates in the diary for the next few weeks. Add in the fact that I, for some strange reason, have signed up to a 10-week fitness boot camp with AG Fitness Training, and my free days are becoming few and far between...

Of course, the biggest adjustment recently has been the return to college (hands up if you're fed up of me moaning about 9am classes already) which has been mostly good, but slightly stressful as always. Second year is a lot harder than I had anticipated, with the pressure being amped up a notch and the impending doom that is university applications right around the corner. I'm trying to really throw myself into college and the opportunities it presents this year, so I'm heading to a few "networking" events this week and next, as well as taking the odd online course to try to develop my skillset that little bit further. Having been through the maddening process of UCAS three times already, I'm determined to make my application as strong as it possibly can be, so that I can hopefully get into my university of choice to finish my degree. Eek. Luckily, I still love my course, so as tedious as methodologies and campaign analysis can be, I still get to write about the things I'm passionate about. It makes a big difference from my fashion student days of writing ridiculously long reports about denim and range plans, I can tell you that much!

One thing I struggle a lit bit with when it comes to changing seasons is style. I'm not good at dressing for the colder weather, which you'd really expect me to be, living in Scotland, so I usually end up in a bit of a rut at this time of year. I've been adding a few versatile pieces into my wardrobe in an attempt to combat this, as well as spending a little bit more time than necessary browsing the ASOS knitwear section. I'm loving playsuits, like this floral number from New Look, but I'm also eyeing up some mom jeans too. I've always struggled to find mom jeans that suit my shape, having big thighs and hips with a smaller waist, but having rediscovered the staple accessory category of belts I feel like I can maybe bring them into my wardrobe for winter. I'm picturing them styled up with chunky knits and trainers for casual days at college, then adding in some stylish wrap tops and boots for the days I fancy dressing up a bit more. We'll see how this new fashion adventure goes...
