I've spoken a little about my hunt to define my style lately, so when I was introduced to the Boohoo Style Squads I was straight in there filling out the quiz. I love a good quiz and waste many an hour on Buzzfeed finding out just what kind of cheese I really am and which Disney character represents me most (spoiler alert, it's Marie from the Aristocats) so the idea of a quiz that would actually help me solve one of my constant dilemmas was not to be sniffed at. At first I wasn't too sure what squad I'd end up in, but in the end I really wasn't all that surprised at the Girly result. I'm always adding girly touches to my outfits, be it with a splash of floral print, a flirty dress or a pop of pink. I've included the quiz below if you fancy checking out your Style Squad, let me know your results in the comments!

I wasn't kidding when I said that midi dresses were going to be one of my summer staples. In fact, looking back at my previous outfit posts it's becoming apparent that bomber jackets and lace-up shoes are also becoming much-loved pieces in my wardrobe! I can't help but wish I was wearing this floaty number walking down the beach as I think it'd make the perfect cover up during the day, as well as being a bit of a boho dream for the evenings. My intended October holiday hasn't been booked yet, but the plans are definitely coming together and this dress will definitely be coming with me.

The bomber has been the perfect jacket for our supposed summer, being light enough that I won't melt but being substantial enough to provide a bit of protection from that persistent breeze. I've rambled about my love of blush tones a lot in the past few months and this little number is no different. I love wearing it with rose gold accessories and I doubt I'll ever get bored of the combination, even if I wear this necklace combination nearly all the time. It adds the perfect edgy-yet-girly touch to any outfit, which is a winner in my eyes.

This is also the first debut of my ever so slightly different hair, which you probably didn't even notice. I've been rocking a bit of a shorter cut lately, which is a little longer than a bob, as well as a slightly blonder ombre to fit the new length. I definitely prefer my hair long, but it desperately needed the chop and it's nice to try something a little bit new! Hair will always grow back, anyway.

In other news, have I mentioned that it's my birthday tomorrow? Yes, I'm joking, I know I've barely shut up about it. I'm feeling a little bit like a kid on Christmas Eve right now and I'm full of excitement about spending the day with my favourite people and dancing the night away. Can you believe this baby face is actually turning 21?

Brand Focus: NYX Cosmetics

NYX Glasgow Fort Counter Brand Focus Review | Colours and Carousels - Scottish Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion blog
Back when NYX first hit Boots stores in Glasgow I was left feeling a little disappointed at the stock levels available in both the city centre counters. To be fair, I think a lot of it was due to the incredible demand for their much hyped over products, and they just couldn't keep up. I had to practically fight my way into the counters, only to be leaving empty handed when the products I had so desperately wanted were out of stock. It probably didn't help that the two counters in the city centre, Buchanan Galleries and St. Enoch, are on the smaller side and don't stock the full range.

The most recent counter to open in Glasgow at the Fort is a different story, and since then I've been able to get my hands on the products I lusted after so feverishly. Much to my delight, the new counter is pretty much double the size of the other two and is considerably better stocked, boasting a huge selection of products, including the coveted Lip Lingeries and the Liquid Suedes which the other counters don't provide.

I was invited along to check out the counter and learn a bit more about the brand last Monday, and since then I've ended up paying three more visits. Not only are the products amazing, but the staff working at the counter are some of the most helpful I've encountered at a beauty counter ever. They are the most lovely people and it makes a huge difference! It's safe to say that my NYX collection has grown pretty quickly, but when you hear more about how incredible these products are you will definitely understand.

I like cats, and I like cake, so eating cake surrounded by beautiful cats sounds pretty heavenly, right? Well since the cat cafe craze hit UK shores I've been able to indulge my fantasies thanks to Scotland's first cat cafe, Maison De Moggy, which opened in Edinburgh in early 2015. I paid my first visit last summer and loved every second, so when Lis suggested that we pay Maison De Moggy a visit for some early birthday celebrations I was very quick to get on board.

Treat Yourself: The 21st Birthday Edition

21st Birthday Gift Party Present Ideas 2016 | Colours and Carousels - Scottish Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion blog
Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Chihuahua - MAC Dusky Rose Eyeshadow Palette

I don't hide the fact that I love birthdays, particularly mine, and really really really like to celebrate them. If you follow me just about anywhere you've more than likely heard me going on about my own upcoming celebrations for my 21st next week (29th of July people, like it's not already in your diaries...) and honestly I'm planning on going all out this year.

Okay, twenty one isn't a massively important age in the UK anymore, not much changes apart from my ability to apply to adopt a child or supervise a learner driver, but the age is just an excuse for me. Since turning 20 last summer I've had a bit of a trying year - to say the least - but things have a funny way of working out for the better even when you least expect it and that's exactly what I want to celebrate. I'm a big fan of treating myself, which you might have already guessed, but right now I feel like I deserve it having managed to get through a really tough time in my life - I have a good job, I'm going back to college, my health is doing alright for a change (touch wood) and I have amazing people in my life. Why wouldn't I want to make the most of that? Any excuse for a new party frock and a night of dancing!

There are a few things I've had my eye on for a long time now but as a very remorseful shopper I've felt a tad too guilty to actually spend my money on, but birthdays managed to eradicate a lot of the buyer's guilt I usually feel and I think it's time to treat myself.

The big ticket item on my current wishlist is definitely a new laptop and I think I'm finally going to indulge and buy myself a Macbook. I haven't quite decided what model I'm going to go for, but at the moment I'm feeling the Air suits me best. I love having a desktop, and it works perfectly for me, but I miss being able to spend lazy mornings working in bed or being able to work on long journeys and just make the most of my time. Being a totally boring person means that I'm also planning on stocking up on a few blogger essentials, like memory cards and a new tripod, because it just makes my life that little bit easier. Nothing says "I'm a blogger" like spending your Friday night browsing Amazon to find the best deals on memory cards and readers...

I always use my birthday as an excuse to treat myself to some new makeup, and this year I have a loooooooong list. The most practical on the list is definitely a new foundation, which will most likely come in a Nars bottle, but I also can't resist a bit of pretty so it's probably no surprise that the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette is on there too. Like I need another palette, right?

I suppose the same could be applied to my book collection - my shelves are fit to burst as it is - but you can't beat a good book. I always have a to-read list the length of my arm, but I also want to invest in a few cook books too. Since following Chrissy Teigen on Snapchat I've become obsessed with her cooking and really want to check out her book, Cravings, so it's definitely on the list.

It's no secret that I love Kate Spade, and the bag I bought in New York was supposedly an early birthday present to me, from me. I'm eager to add to my growing collection of Kate Spade and finally buy one of her planners that I've been lusting after for roughly 3 years now! I also need a new watch and think that one of her's would be the perfect partner to my wrist.

Let's not tell my bank card about all of these shopping plans, okay?

Do you like to go all out for your birthday, or is it not really your thing?

For someone who used to wear the exact same lipstick nearly every single day, my lipstick collection sure has grown. Liquid lipsticks are everywhere these days and seem to be the new "in" thing, especially in my life, so I thought I'd share a rundown of the liquid lipsticks I've loved and loathed in my quest to find the perfect formula. Basically, this is just an attempt to justify my shameful shopping habits whilst also trying to be *informative* and *useful* because that's what bloggers do, right?

I feel like as soon as I get my skin settled in to a routine that works for it, the seasons change and my skin flips out. I suppose it doesn't help that Scotland can quite easily see all four of the seasons in the space of one day, but as our somewhat winter-like summer has rolled around it's time to try out some new products once again.

Highfield Hotel Keswick

Highfield Hotel Keswick Review | Colours and Carousels - Scottish Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion blog

Recently it's felt a little like Paddy & I have been ships passing in the night, with equally busy work schedules, dissertations and social lives. When we've managed to spend any time together it's been a quick couple of hours grabbed here and there, usually tired and grumpy after a long day at work or stressing out about something or another. Making the most of the time we do have together has become a priority, be it jam packing our days off with day trips or heading out for a date night straight from work, so when the stars aligned and we had more than one consecutive day off together we jumped at the chance to head away for a night.

Our location of choice was Keswick in the Lake District, and more specifically Highfield Hotel. Being a relatively straight forward drive from Glasgow yet boasting the unbeatable allure of somewhere new it made for the perfect break from our usual busy schedules.
