My love for the city of Glasgow is well known, and Christmas time in Glasgow is no different. The city really shows its best during the festive season and it makes a brilliant place to spend a day or even a weekend. I have so many recommendations of things to do in the city all year round, but after I had a festive day out with Glasgow Loves Christmas at the start of the season – which you can see in my first Vlogmas video – I thought I’d share a quick Christmas rundown of the best spots in the city.
Fashion & Beauty
Glasgow is home to some of the best shopping you’ll find, with our iconic Style Mile playing host to big brands, high-end designers and huge department stores full to the brim with everything you could ever want to buy. Between shopping centres like Buchanan Galleries, Princes Square and the St Enoch Centre, and Buchanan Street which is lined with household names, you’re well and truly covered for festive fashion. It’s the perfect place to find your party outfits or presents for the fashionistas in your life! If you fancy something extra sparkly for your someone special, then the stunning Argyll Arcade is without a doubt the place to be this Christmas. The Argyll Arcade is home to over 60 retailers with big names like Rox to lend a helping hand for picking the perfect present.
Alongside our huge high-end fashion brands, we also have some household names from the beauty world who will sort out both your stocking fillers and your night-out makeup in a flash. With counters, such as Charlotte Tilbury in House of Fraser, gracing our huge department stores you’re sure to find exactly what you’re after whether it be a pamper session for yourself to get ready for the work’s do, or that massively hyped cult beauty product as a treat for someone special.
I’m a big kid at heart, so unsurprisingly I love shopping for toys at Christmas (and all year round, really). You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to festive family fun in Glasgow, with an excellent toy selection on offer. Obsessed with that John Lewis advert? Pick up your very own Buster the Boxer in John Lewis at Buchanan Galleries, or visit their Portable North Pole section to pick up a personalised message from Santa. If that’s not enough, you can pop down to Hamleys in the St Enoch Centre to pick up the latest and greatest toys this year, and meet the man himself!
Turning the house in to a grotto that even Santa would be jealous of is one of my favourite parts of Christmas - it’s time for fairy lights galore, Christmas candles, glitter and more. Seeing all of the shops decked out in decorations gets me feeling so festive, even more so when I visit the John Lewis Christmas Shop. Located on the bottom floor of their Buchanan Galleries store, it’s packed full of everything you’ll need to create your very own cosy winter wonderland to spend your evenings watching festive films in. They have five main themes to cover all decoration styles with an incredible selection of cute and quirky pieces for your home.
Food & Drink
After all of that shopping, you’ll need a bite to eat to bring your energy levels back up. There are endless options when it comes to filling up in Glasgow, with sweet treats, festive food and Christmas cocktails to suit everyone. The Christmas Markets are home to a maze of mouth-watering stalls where you can enjoy a selection of foodie delights for all tastes. There’s plenty of more traditional treats, as well as a cosy alpine themed bar if you need a break. For those with a sweet tooth, you can’t have a festive day of fun in Glasgow without paying a visit to Kimble’s. The family run business has their very own chocolate café in the St Enoch Centre as well as a pop-up gift shop in Buchanan Galleries to pick up some sweet treats for your friends and family. Make sure you try out their incredible hot chocolate and grab a slice of cake before taking home some of their delectable chocolate creations to enjoy in front of the telly too. Round off your trip to the city with a tipple or two from one of our numerous bars, many of which have a special Christmas cocktail menu too. Princes Square has so many bars and restaurants to pay a visit to, with the festive specials at Restaurant Bar & Grill the perfect way to end the day. Their Frankincense cocktail cannot be missed!
