As surprising as it may be to hear from someone who is a bit of a burger obsessive, I think the days of Glasgow's burger craze are numbered. Next up on the agenda? Pizza. Am I complaining? Absolutely not.

I've raved about my love of Paesano for the last year, but since then a few new contenders have popped up on my radar, with Pizza Punks being just one of them. Nestled on one of Glasgow's busiest burger spots, St Vincent Street, it feels like a breath of fresh air. Even more so when you hear that you can create your own pizza with as many toppings as you'd like for a flat rate of £9. Yeah, not bad, is it?

Last week I headed along to the recently opened restaurant to find out a bit more about what's on offer, with the premise of perfectly paired beers from Franciscan Well, Blue Moon Brewing Company and the brewery behind Staropramen just adding to the lure of the pizza. We were given the chance to sample a selection of pizzas available at Pizza Punks, including a delicious lemon thyme roast chicken on a creamy white sauce base, whilst hearing a bit more about the thought that goes into pairing the flavours between your pizza and your drinks.

The pizzas themselves were on a sourdough style base, with the dough being allowed to rest for a whole day before being baked. It has a real crunchy crust, which would be perfect for dipping in to a big pot of sauce. A quick glance at the menu yields a whole host of flavour combinations from both the create your own "Punk It" section and the suggested options. They're not wet pizzas, which is a style I quite enjoy as I do like them a little soggy, but I know that's a gripe of some peoples. After just a couple of slices, I'm already desperate to go back for more and am hoping to fit in another visit as soon as possible. The chorizo & nduja is calling my name... as are the incredible milkshakes on their dessert menu.

The restaurant is surprisingly large and open, with seating areas spreading right through to the back of the building. It has a bit of a warehouse feel, with high ceilings and exposed framework throughout. It's a very "hip" vibe, as seems to be the go-to these days. It's hard to miss the restaurant, especially if you've been familiar with the longstanding branding on the facade which felt like it was there forever before it actually opened!

Although this was just a first impressions kind-of-deal, I'm already so excited to head back to Pizza Punks to make the most of their flat rate create your own offer. Obviously, I'll get a full review of the place up as soon as I've been! It's great to see more "trendy" pizza places opening in Glasgow and I for one intend to make my way around them all. Maybe when the Glasgow Burgerthon is over we'll move on to pizza instead...

You can find Pizza Punks at 90 St Vincent Street or follow them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for more
