5 Cities in 5 Years

Five Cities I Want To Visit | Colours and Carousels - Scottish Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion blog

I've been really lucky this year in that I've managed to tick some pretty big destinations off my bucket list. My bank balance may be crying, but my little travel bug heart is pretty damn happy. Next week I'm heading off for a slightly more chilled out break in Croatia, but we'll definitely be paying the city of Dubrovnik a visit whilst we're there. I think it'll be the last trip of the year, unfortunately, but it has got me thinking about the cities I want to visit in the years to come. My list is never-ending, with new discoveries being added all the time, but here are the top five on my list that I'm hoping to hit up in the next five years.

New York

Okay, so the first one is maybe a bit of a cop out as I have already visited, but I fell in love with New York when I visited back in May, and as a result I'm already desperate to go back. It's a huge city, so it's not surprising that I feel like I barely scraped the surface in the few short days I was there! I know I want to see the city at Christmas after seeing it in the height of summer, but I'd also like to undertake a bit of a foodie tour of the city also. I was twenty when I visited, so I didn't get to partake in many cocktails, but now that I'm of legal drinking age in the city I definitely want to pay a visit to some of New York's coolest bars and visit the foodie spots of dreams. I'm already anticipating returning from the city a stone or two heavier...

Rome

Again, food related, but I'm so keen to pay a visit to Italy, with the city of Rome sitting pretty high up on my list. I'd quite happily visit any of Italy's major cities, but since reading about Lis' trip in the summer - particularly the cats - Rome has worked its way up to the top of the list. Rome, and Italy in general, has so much history to breathe in, with ancient temples, beautiful squares and the iconic Colesseum to fill your days with. Not only that, but I'd love to spend my days stuffing my face with pizza, pasta, a good glass of wine and obviously topping it all off with a generous helping of gelato to boot. I like food, okay, and Italy is home to so many of my favourite dishes.

Seoul

Again a supposed heaven for foodies, Seoul has been on my to-visit list for a few years now. This sprawling metropolis seems like an incredible concotion of historical World Heritage accredited sites, stunning green spaces and the buzz of new technologies. It's a city that has always appealed to me, and one that I'm desperate to see for myself. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that draws me to Seoul, possibly the aforementioned honeypot mix, but it's definitely a city I want to tick off my list as soon as possible.

I'm also incredibly fascinated by North Korea, having read numerous books on various issues and the general regime in the country, so it would be cool to visit the Demilitarised Zone and see where the countries are split. I feel like that's probably as close as I'd get to visiting North Korea in itself!

Boston

So many people close to me have raved about Boston as a city, including my blogging bae Hayley and my childhood BFF Geraldine, so it's really not surprising that it's sitting high up on my list of places to visit. Fun fact, Paddy very nearly undertook a year long work placement in Boston and whilst at the time it petrified me I'm now thinking it would have been the perfect opportunity to visit the city for myself! Boston is home to the historic Freedom Trail, which winds its way around the city and consists of 16 significant spots in American history. The Boston Public Library looks simply stunning, and I love that it's strong academic foundation has created this vibrant culture of creativity and innovation.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen seems to have been one of the "it" destinations in the past year or so, with what feels like everyone and their gran heading off to the Danish city for a visit. I haven't visited any Scandinavian countries yet and Denmark is high on my list. Copenhagen is supposedly expensive, which is a tad off-putting, but I'm just going to bide my time and save my pennies to really make the most of a trip there. I'd hate to visit and feel like I was missing out because I had to scrimp and save, I really want to make it worth my while.

Home to a restaurant that's been voted the world's best, as well as fifteen restaurants with Michelin Stars, it seems like yet another foodie paradise. Are you noticing a theme here? I promise I do think about things apart from food... sometimes.

What cities are on your bucket list?
