For someone who used to wear the exact same lipstick nearly every single day, my lipstick collection sure has grown. Liquid lipsticks are everywhere these days and seem to be the new "in" thing, especially in my life, so I thought I'd share a rundown of the liquid lipsticks I've loved and loathed in my quest to find the perfect formula. Basically, this is just an attempt to justify my shameful shopping habits whilst also trying to be *informative* and *useful* because that's what bloggers do, right?

One of the most recent additions to my collection is the Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in the shade "Fuschia Mauve", a gorgeous deep fuschia that leans more on the purple side of pink. I find this formula a little bit streaky, but it can be built up for a more opaque finish. Whilst the colour is beautiful, and one of the main reasons I chose it, I don't find it to transfer that well to my lips, instead appearing to be a much darker plum shade with none of the pink tones showing through. The glossy formula is prone to smudge a little, but if lined and set properly it'll stay in place with a few top ups throughout the day.

In contrast, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist was one of the first liquid lipsticks I really fell for, and you can read my original review here. My love is still going strong, and I've sinced added the hot pink Pink Pong shade to my collection too, which is seriously bold. These lipsticks have the most gorgeous texture and the potential to stay in place all day if you don't have a bad habit of rubbing your lips together like me. There's a really great shade range available now, with a few new finishes added to the line up too. I'd say they're one of the better formulas available on the high street right now, and a great way to get started.

On my recent trip to New York I picked up a fair few bits and bobs (watch my haul video to see more!) including two liquid lipsticks that I very quickly became obsessed with. The first of which being the Too Faced Melted Matte in the shade Queen B, which is a gorgeous dusky lilac-pink tone with a matte finish, duh. This super lightweight, long lasting formula has become a firm favourite. It's matter than matte, and can be quite drying, but it's comfortable to wear and super easy to apply. I've got my eye on some of the original Melted and Melted Metal formulas too, which knowing me I'll be ordering pretty soon.

Back in the day every blogger and their mum raved about the Rimmel Apocalips, but since then they don't seem to be mentioned all that much. Potentially the original drugstore liquid lipstick, these are still a firm favourite of mine and I own two shades, a dusky pink Galaxy and a bold red Big Bang. The glossy finish is surprisingly long lasting and the creamy formula is kind to the lips, with minimal transfer and an easy to use doe-foot applicator.

Before NYX had made its way to UK shores I had picked up a supposed dupe for their infamous Soft Matte Lip Creams in the shape of the Collection Cream Puff in Cotton Candy. With only four shades available it's a pretty dire selection, but having since tried the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams I'd say the formula is a pretty close dupe, as far as having a near identical scent. Now that the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are easier to get in the UK it's not really all that useful to know, especially as the shade range is far superior, but if you do like the formulation then it may be worth checking these out.

The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare shares a couple of features in common with the Too Faced Melted Mattes, in that I also picked it up on my visit to the States and that it's another absolute gem in my collection. As soon as I tried it I regretted not picking up more shades as it's quite possibly the best matte liquid lipstick I've tried so far. Super pigmented, lightweight and long lasting it's absolutely perfect in my eyes and the brick shade is just ideal for the red/orange/coral toned nude phase I'm clearly going through at the moment, based on the above selection! I'm so glad that Kat Von D are launching in the UK later this year and can't wait to get my hands on some more shades.

Whilst the NYX Soft Mattes are pretty infamous already, the NYX Lip Lingerie seems to be gaining quite a lot of attention as of late. Based on the swatches on the Boots website, which I've since discovered to be kind of awful, I ordered Exotic - a deep brick red - and Honeymoon - a slightly taupe-ish grey-ish nude-ish tone. Great description there, Charlotte. Honeymoon was a bit more brown than I had expected, and I'm not wholly convinced it suits me, but Exotic has fitted in with ease. The formula is somewhat mousse-like, and requires a bit of work in application, but after a couple of coats to combat any streaking they stay pretty much put all day long. The finish is matte, but it is a tad on the sticky side, although surprisingly drying on the lips. I have stupidly dry and cracked lips, which unfortunately are so often highlighted by liquid lips, and find that I need to go overboard with the scrub & balm before wearing these. Despite this, I still really like these lightweight lipsticks and now that they're available at the counter in Boots Glasgow Fort I'll definitely be trying some more shades!

I found another favourite in the shape of the Gerard Hydra Matte liquid lipstick in the shade Serenity. I bought this back in the spring and was instantly taken aback by just how lightweight this formula is, it definitely wins in terms of comfort to wear in my eyes. It's not drying in the slightest and will stay in place all day long, even with plenty of eating and drinking. I keep meaning to order more of these for myself, but haven't added to my collection yet.

Jeffree Star is someone with a fair bit of notoriety within the beauty world but the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks are raved about to the point that the most popular shades sell out almost immediately. With a bit of help from one of the girls I work with I managed to nab the shade Rose Matter, a warm toned pink nude, to see what all of the fuss was about. If you like your lipsticks super matte then you'll like this formula, it's about as matte as they come. The flocked doe-foot applicator can be tough to get used to at first, which can be quite messy as when this formula dries it will not budge, but once you get the hang of it you're sorted. They're hard to get hold of, but if you like one of the shades then I'd thoroughly recommend trying to get your hands on one of these super pigmented lipsticks. They also smell like Germolene, weirdly, which I really like because I'm odd.

Finally, the MAC Retro Matte liquid lipstick in Back in Vogue is another new addition to my collection but I find myself reaching for it on a fairly regular basis. The peachy toned coral shade is quite similar to that of Rose Matter, but slightly more orange toned. It packs a punch in terms of pigmentation, however I find it quite drying on my lips and it doesn't fade evenly at all. Despite that, I still love the uber matte finish and precise wand applicator. It won't be forgiving on dry lips like mine, but with a little extra care it makes for a beautiful matte lip.
