It's surprisingly sunny in Scotland at the moment and everyone seems to be going a bit mad. It's amazing how much difference a spot of sun can make to my mood, and apparently those of the people around me too! All of this sunshine and warmth has got me thinking about my summer and how I'd ideally like it to play out - if this actually happens, however, is an entirely different story...
Last summer I had just moved home from Aberdeen after dropping out of university and ended up cramming as many things as possible in to my weeks, I think in a way as a distraction from the fact I wouldn't be returning to university, but also because I do just enjoy being busy. I spent most of last summer working, either at my part time job or my internship with a Glasgow PR company, but alongside that I was also running my blog and somehow organising a blogger event that ended up raising over £300 for charity. It was a total whirlwind few months and it's no surprise that I was left feeling a tiny bit burnt out and absolutely exhausted, so I finished it all off with a relaxing week sunbathing in Turkey.
Even though this summer probably won't be all that different, I'm working pretty much full time, I'll be blogging and vlogging aplenty, and more excitingly ScotBlogMeet 2016 is in the process of being organised (!!!!), I want this to be the summer of me-time. I want to use this summer to read all of those books I've been meaning to read for months, visiting that cute little cafe I spotted back on a shopping trip in March, doing the online courses I've been saving for a rainy Sunday, baking those hundreds of mouthwatering recipes I tucked away on Pinterest for "one day".... I also want to watch TV and play Sims, but maybe not quite as much as I did during the colder months - which was a lot. I want to make this summer memorable, I want to hang out with the people I love doing things I enjoy doing, which will mostly be eating. I should maybe go to the gym more then too, right? This is the summer of treating myself.
If you're subscribed to my YouTube channel then you hopefully saw me chatting about my future travel plans earlier this week, but that was a much more long term plan as opposed to what I'd like to do this summer. Obviously I have New York (next week ahhh!) which is going to be incredible and I'm so excited for, but apart from that I really want to get out and about this summer. Paddy is taking me away for my 21st to a top secret location - I have my theories - but apart from that I don't have any solid plans. I know I want to go somewhere hot and sunny, and after hearing my mum and dad rave about their cruise last year I've been eyeing up some cruise deals for myself. They went on a Baltic cruise, which sounded absolutely incredible, but my inner sun goddess quite fancies a trip around the Mediterranean or possibly the Greek Isles.
Foreign shores aside, I'm also really looking forward to seeing more of Scotland this summer. I said that last summer, but this summer I will actually make it happen. Even just exploring more of Edinburgh, or spending more sunny afternoons in Glasgow's West End! I want to wander round Loch Lomond and eat picnics on breezy beaches, hopefully in the sun but who really knows in Scotland?
Overall, I like to think that this will be an indulgent summer. I feel like I deserve it, which may seem big headed, but I've worked hard recently and I've trudged my way through a few tough times in the past twelve months. There's nothing wrong with looking after yourself, and that is exactly what I intend to do this summer.
What are your plans for the summer - travel, festivals, something else entirely?
