If you've asked me for food related recommendations any time since last November then this post will come of absolutely no surprise to you, but for those of you out there who haven't yet heard about this must-visit gem in Glasgow, let me help you get acquainted.
One of my favourite things about my blog is being able to share some of my favourite places in my city, hidden treasures and not-so-secret local institutions alike, which is something I have in common with the handy online magazine-come-city guide citizenMag, which recently relaunched and boasts an excellent selection of local gems to check out should you be visiting the city.
Now, Paesano opened towards the end of last year and since then I have visited no less than six times, possibly more. I love a good pizza, and apparently so does Glasgow as we have an abundance of pizza joints in and around the city centre, but here are five reasons why I think Paesano is up there as one of the best you'll find.
This seems like the best starting point, right? I'd say that the most important part of eating out is the quality of food - I don't want to be paying a fortune for something I could just as easily whip up at home - and luckily for me Paesano doesn't fall short here. Their traditional wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas pack a punch when it comes to flavour and they've absolutely nailed a simple classic dish that's loved worldwide. I've had a lot of pizza in my time, and nothing quite compares to the ones on offer at Paesano. Be warned, these pizzas can be wet and juicy, so you better be prepared to get messy. White t-shirts not advised!
The Paesano menu is relatively "select", shall we say, but they cover all of their bases with both vegetarian and vegan options too. Not only that, but their ever-changing specials board has come up with some absolute treats recently including my favourite-so-far, Chorizo and Nduja. Veggies, meat, fish - the choice is yours. I absolutely recommend upgrading to buffalo mozzarella for an extra £1.50 as it's super creamy and delicious!
You'd be forgiven for thinking that an artisan pizza joint such as Paesano would set you back an arm and a leg for a meal, but you'd also be entirely wrong. One of the best things about visiting the restaurant is the fact that it's an absolute steal for city centre dining - especially with the quality you're getting. The pizzas range from £5-8 so you can easily grab a pizza, dessert and beer or wine for under £15 per person. Did somebody say bargain?
Paesano is located just a stone's throw from the busiest streets in Glasgow at 94 Miller Street, a mere moments walk from Argyle Street, George Square and the Merchant City. It's a suprisingly huge place, with ample seating and warm, inviting interiors. It can get busy at times, but I promise it's worth the wait! It's situated in prime position to pop in for a bite to fuel an intense shopping spree, have a cosy date night with your significant other or catch up with friends on a Friday evening.
C'mon, it's me. I'm all about the desserts! Well, not just desserts, more food in general, but the desserts at Paesano deserve a special mention. With their ice cream bar & Tart of the Day you'll be spoilt for choice, but I can thoroughly recommend the tiramisu. It's one of the best I've had! Failing that, a 99 with a flake and raspberry sauce always goes down a treat in my eyes.
