Valentine's has barely passed and now it's Mother's Day already?! With Christmas followed by a January birthday it can be difficult to find something for my mum when Mother's Day rolls around, as she's usually pretty well stocked by now, but when Matalan invited me to take part in their Mother's Day Hamper Challenge I couldn't resist the opportunity to pick up a few more treats for her.
It's quite fitting really, as we often make trips to the Matalan a few doors down from my brother's work and so I figured this would help arm me with plenty of ideas and put me at an advantage. I think it worked in my favour, but we'll need to wait and see what my mum thinks! Although she will most likely read this post as soon as she's in from work, which may spoil the surprise a little...
My mum and I are pretty similar people, we like a lot of the same things and both enjoy our creature comforts. Between the two of us we've amassed a considerable collection of mugs and I couldn't resist picking up a couple more to add to our stash. I loved the selection of hand painted mugs on offer, so picked up a floral alphabet letter mug and a matching patterned one too. I know these will get plenty of use as my mum is very fond of a cup of tea!
Again, drawing on our similarities, my mum and I are very prone to spending a few extra hours tucked in bed reading a book or watching TV, so pyjamas were a no brainer. This cosy striped nightie looks so comfortable that I'm tempted to and pick one up for myself. Or maybe I'll just "borrow" this one...
Whilst browsing the accessories section on the hunt for a bag she'd mentioned I was ever so slightly distracted by the selection of scarves on offer. My mum already has a fair few scarves in her wardrobe, but I figured another wouldn't hurt. As soon as I saw the colours in the butterfly printed scarf I was instantly drawn to it. She always seems to favour blues and jewel tones, and based on the hundreds of butterfly themed decorations around our house I thought the print would go down a treat.
It wouldn't be me if there wasn't some form of candle involved, and it was pretty hard to resist buying them all for myself, but the bright green jar of the passionfruit & orange candle grabbed my attention as it's a great match for our living room decor. It was love at first sniff, with a deep, tropical scent that was a bit different to the typical fruity candles on offer, so it was popped in my basket.
I find it hard to resist the homeware section whenever I visit Matalan, especially at this time of year as they have some gorgeous spring pieces on offer. Luckily, they have lots of green toned pieces in at the moment which, again, fits in well with our living room. Our cat likes to lay claim to any throws in the house - and he tried his best to grab this one whilst I was photographing it - so it might not last too long but at least it will match the room better than the bright pink one he currently favours! I suppose this was more for him than my mum, but for £5 I'll use any excuse...
Overall, these bits and bobs cost a *tiny* bit over £25, so I didn't quite succeed at the challenge, but to get all of these gorgeous pieces for under £30 is an absolute steal! Fingers crossed my mum likes it all, but I'm sure she will as I know how much she likes Matalan. Plus I have excellent taste, so there's that.
