Ways To Spend an Evening in Glasgow

Late Night Glasgow | Colours and Carousels - Scottish Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion blog

I'm sure you're all fed up of me rambling about my new job by now, but I promise this will maybe be the last time... for now. Anyway, one of the best things about moving in to a new position is the fact that I no longer have to work till ridiculously late and instead have my evenings to spend however I please. I've already done a bit of cooking, and I've certainly watched a lot of TV, but as the weather starts to improve slightly I'm trying to get back in to the habit of leaving the house and doing the things I love in Glasgow again.

Shopping

Something I will always rave about is Glasgow's shopping, because it's hard to beat. The Style Mile boasts an incredible selection of high end and high street alongside three brilliant shopping centres, all within easy walking distance and slap bang in the city centre. Much to my inner shopaholic's delight, over 220 of Glasgow's biggest and best shops are open for late night trading on a Thursday meaning that I can well and truly make a night of it! It's a real beauty lovers paradise, with a massive House of Fraser on Buchanan Street, mere moments from Space NK in Princes Square and Debenhams in the St. Enoch Centre. Now do you see why I can hardly resist a shopping spree?

Food and Drink

It's no secret that Glasgow is home to some brilliant burgers, but much to my delight that's not all. From Carribean to Chinese, you can get pretty much every cuisine under the sun in the city. Excellent news if you love food as much as I do! Some highlights worth mentioning include Paesano for the best pizza in the city, Jellybear for all of your sugary needs, Topolabamba & Cafe Andaluz for tapas heaven, and Martha's for a guilt free bite. That's just the tip of the iceberg, with hundreds of other amazing independent businesses living alongside the big name restaurants you'd expect to see in a city of Glasgow's size. It's never ending, and I absolutely love it.

It wouldn't be a guide to an evening in Glasgow without mentioning some treasures for a tipple or two, and there is absolutely no shortage of these. Whilst you can find a bar or pub on just about every street in the city, some of my favourites include Hummingbird, Bunker, Firewater for a drink on the cheap, Bar Home, WEST Brewery and The Butterfly & Pig.

Culture

If you're feeling a bit more cultured, then you won't be at a loss in the city. Alongside our gorgeous museums and art galleries, Glasgow is also home to the fantastic Stand Comedy Club where you can see the latest and greatest comedy stars, as well as some up and coming comedians too. Many venues in the city host comedy nights, such as Yesbar and the aforementioned West.

There are some real cinematic gems in the city, such as the Glasgow Film Theatre which is always a treat, as well as The Grosvenor in the West End. Not only that, we also have the tallest cinema in the world in the form of Cineworld, which you most definitely cannot miss.

Glasgow's music scene has a stellar reputation and it's totally understandable when you see the host of events taking place. With a plethora of venues on offer, from the cosy King Tuts to the jaw dropping Hydro Arena, there's something happening in the city pretty much every night.

You'd really struggle to be bored in Glasgow with the amount that's on, so it's no wonder that this city holds such a special place in my heart. You can check out even more things to do in Glasgow over at People Make Glasgow, as well as a few more of my favourites over on my Yelp profile.
