Is there a better way to spend a Sunday than surrounded by cake? Well, being surrounded by cake and cheese might just count...

Back at the beginning of the month my mum and I headed through to Edinburgh to pay a visit to the Cake and Bake Show that was taking place in the Royal Highland Centre. Promising baking stars such as Great British Bake Off 2015 winner Nadiya Hussain and hundreds of mouth watering exhibitors it was one we couldn't miss.

Whilst the space itself was just a little bit cramped for my liking, we still had a wonderful afternoon  wandering round the hall sampling lots of sweet treats and watching plenty of demonstrations. The sheer amount of talent on display was pretty jaw dropping and made my attempts at baking feel a tiny bit inferior!

I did have a bit of a fan girl moment when Nadiya came on stage, I think she is absolutely brilliant and so down to earth. It was quite surreal seeing her bake in real life instead of in the tent, on screen! Other notable appearances included Norman Calder from GBBO 2014 (one of my favourites, ever, for good reason) and I believe Flora Shedden from this year's show was there on the Saturday too! I absolutely adore her blog so I'm kind of sad I didn't get to see her.

I like to think I was quite reserved in my purchasing, only buying some of my favourite cheese and an amazing brownie from The Brownie Bar, but it was so hard to resist everything that was on offer. There was a great range of kitchen storage, appliances and condiments on offer alongside the baking bits and bobs so there was a decent variety.

Overall, I'd say the day was a success, but we had bought our tickets at a discounted rate. I'm not sure how happy I would have been if I'd paid full price! I think that this was the first year the show has come to Edinburgh, so maybe it was a case of teething issues, but I think the space could have been handled better and there could have been a bit more variety in terms of the baking and supplies on offer. Sometimes I find cakes to be just a little bit boring - probably because I'm awful at decorating them - so I would have appreciated some other types of bakes on show for inspiration! Maybe I'll just need to work on my decorating skills instead...

The Cake and Bake Show is going to be in Manchester this weekend, so if you fancy checking it out for yourself you can grab all of the information here.

It means so much to me that people take the time to comment, and I really appreciate each and every one. I try to reply to all of them but I am pretty forgetful, so if you have a burning question that you would like me to answer please drop me a tweet @colourscarousel or email me!
