Finishing Touches with IOLLA

Iolla Glasses Showroom Glasgow | Colours and Carousels - Scottish Lifestyle, Beauty and Fashion blog

A few years back I thought I had found the perfect glasses. I loved the frame, the fit and the colour. I could wear them all day without that dreaded squished head feeling and I didn't feel like I was wearing those fake geek glasses that were ever so popular at the time.

Then I sat on them.

Ever since, I've been hunting for the next pair of glasses that can truly take their place. My prescription has changed so many times since I had those original glasses that I wouldn't even be able to wear them any more, and this comforts me, but it's also a bit annoying as my most recent favourite pair from Glasses Direct are now defunct also.

I thought my hunt was over when, a few weeks ago, I was invited to an event at the newly opened IOLLA showroom in Glasgow's West End. However one night I was sitting at home happily browsing Instagram when I noticed a pile of pictures from said event... I had put the wrong date in my diary. UGH! Cue major annoyance, which was relieved a few days later when I was invited in to check out the showroom myself.

Glasses are a difficult thing to buy. I've found that opticians are often poorly lit, with little mirror space and a lack of affordable choices. I've often come away from the opticians with a pair of glasses that will "do" instead of a pair that I really love. It's annoying, and in turn makes me not want to wear my glasses, which then adds even more strain on to my poor eyes. Vicious cycle!

IOLLA work on the principle of offering designs that their customers want, all produced in house, at a price point that suits. Instead of paying for ridiculous upsells and services, your glasses cost £65 for single focus which also includes the anti-scratch and anti-glare coating that most opticians will be charging extra for. You can pay for upgrades to multi focus or super thing if that's what your prescription requires also, and everything is made super clear in their simple, transparent pricing plan.

To make the process even easier IOLLA have now opened a showroom in Glasgow's West End - a few minutes walk from Kelvingrove Art Gallery - where you can try on the glasses and find your perfect frame in a comfortable environment. It's not an opticians, but the staff are still incredibly knowledgeable about what you may need from your glasses and the kind of styles that suit you. The bright, airy space with ample lighting and plenty of mirrors means that you're sure to find your perfect frame from the gorgeous selection they have on offer.

In the end I decided to go for the Telford frames in smoke tortoise, a style that is not unusual to me but in a colour way that is a bit more of a statement. Something about the unique pattern caught my eye and I couldn't leave without them. I don't think I've ever had more compliments on a pair of glasses in my life!

Each pair of glasses from IOLLA is designed and assembled in Scotland, so boasts the name of an iconic Scottish person. I think this is such a cute little touch! The best components are sourced from around the world to make up the high standard frames, which are the perfect combination of durable and lightweight.

Having spent too long paying over the odds for glasses that aren't even all that nice, I've been recommending IOLLA to every glasses wearer I know. It might seem like I'm just saying that, but if you too have experienced a less than great opticians then I'm sure you'll be able to relate. If not, and you have a brilliant opticians, then I'm a tiny bit jealous.

Next up, sunglasses!
