BLOGGING TIPS: The Importance of Community

In the four years that I've been blogging the most important thing to me has been the community surrounding the blogosphere. I've met some amazing people thanks to my blog and some of them will hopefully be friends for many years to come. Aside from the social networks, there are a few other contributing factors when it comes to the community and for the final post under this subheading I thought I'd cover some of my favourite ways to get involved.

One of the most important things I've found when blogging is commenting on other people's posts that you love. Not only is it a great way to get your blog out there, it's so useful when it comes to meeting people and making friends. If you have a blog then you know how nice a feeling it is when you get a comment, so why not help others feel the same? I try to comment on a minimum of five new blogs every day (if I have the time) and because of this I've found some great reads. Be sure to include a link to your blog in your comment so that other bloggers can return the favour! I find a lot of new blogs by reading other people's comments and clicking on all of the links too, so it should help grow your audience as well as generally being a nice thing to do.

IT MUST BE LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
A while ago I used to do a monthly post called "Share The Love" where I shared three blogs that I'd been enjoying that month. These were pretty popular and I loved helping people find new blogs to fall in love with. I try to include a link to a blog or some posts I've been enjoying in my monthly round up but I've been slacking a bit recently, however I always make sure to tweet or retweet posts that I enjoy too. This is a really easy way to share appreciation for someone else's hard work which might just make their day!

DON'T BE AFRAID TO SAY HI
Finally getting involved in the local blogging community is such a fantastic way to meet likeminded people. Making friends who I can actually meet up with quite easily to chat about all things blogging - and take photos of my food without being judged - is one of my favourite things to come out of having a blog. Have a look on Twitter or Facebook for local blogging groups (like Scottish Bloggers on Facebook!) or just send a wee message to someone you know is in the same kind of area to see if there are any meet ups or anything going on.

The blogging community continues to amaze and inspire me every single day, it's something I'm so proud to be a part of. There can be a fair bit of negativity from time to time but on the whole we are such a lovely bunch who are always on hand to help out or just have a chat. If it's something you've been nervous about immersing yourself in you should definitely take the plunge - it's worth it.

It means so much to me that people take the time to comment, and I really appreciate each and every one. I try to reply to all of them but I am pretty forgetful, so if you have a burning question that you would like me to answer please drop me a tweet @colourscarousel or email me!
