WATCHING: Charlotte at the Cinema #3

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from old history: the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier. - IMDB

I'm a big fan of the films from the Marvel franchise and this was no exception. The latest addition to the Captain America films was jam packed full of action and excitement as usual (and may or may not have made me cry as usual). Also, Emily Vancamp from Revenge was in it too which was pretty cool. Basically, if you like the rest of the Avengers films you'll like this. Make sure you stay till the end of the credits! I'm always amazed by the amount of people who don't, you're missing out.
9/10 - it loses a point for a lack of Robert Downey Jr.

DIVERGENT
In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late. - IMDB

I've probably mentioned the Divergent trilogy at some point before and I was really excited to finally see the first instalment of the films. As many people are I'm often wary about book to film adaptations however this was really good and I felt it did it justice. Now that I've seen Shailene Woodley in this I'm really looking forward to seeing The Fault In Our Stars as she was a fantastic actress, however I do think it'll be a bit weird that Ansel Elgort will be playing her love interest in TFIOS when he played her brother in this. Regardless, this was a really great watch and if you haven't already read the books you definitely should.
10/10

THE OTHER WOMAN
After discovering her boyfriend is married, Carly soon meets the wife he's been cheating on. And when yet another affair is discovered, all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on the three-timing SOB. - IMDB

This was a pretty typical chick flick and I have to be honest in saying that I'm not the biggest fan of Cameron Diaz, however clich├ęs aside it was a good film. I can't say it's the kind of thing I'd be desperate to see again but if you're after a wee girl's night out then this is a pretty fail safe choice. Also, Nicki Minaj is not really the best actress but then again did anyone really think she would be? Regardless, it's a feel good chick flick with some kind of drawn out humour but on the whole not a difficult watch.
6/10

Transcendence
As Dr. Will Caster works toward his goal of creating an omniscient, sentient machine, a radical anti-technology organization fights to prevent him from establishing a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain. - IMDB

I only saw this film last night so it's pretty fresh in my memory, I'll probably ramble a lot. I do not leave any Johnny Depp film unwatched so this was an easy choice to make when picking a film. It basically covers the idea of artificial intelligence and the impact this could have on the world - it was a really interesting watch. It was quite thought provoking as well as really emotive. It got down to business quite quickly which I liked however it did start to get a bit confusing towards the end as some things aren't really properly explained - I'm not even sure that my understanding of it is correct but it's possible that was the intention. It's left me with a lot of thoughts (and probably nightmares) about the possibilities created through the use of AI and it's applications so I was up for hours last night browsing the interwebs and reading conspiracy theory upon conspiracy theory... creepy stuff. However if Johnny Depp did end up taking over the world I don't think I'd really complain too much.
9.5 - great overall but a tad confusing in places
