OOTD - You can't always get what you want

Tshirt - Brat & Suzie* (available on ASOS)
Skirt - eBay
Being totally honest, this is my 'I slept in and need to get ready in twenty minutes' look. I can so pull off the bed head hair do...

I'm a sucker for a cute tee and this adorable elephant number is no exception. I think it can be kind of obvious that I'm an animal person - especially if you've met me in person - so when I was contacted by Brat and Suzie about styling one of their tees I jumped at the chance. Brat and Suzie have just launched on ASOS and have a wide range of adorable animal tshirts and clothing. Grey is a pretty predominant colour in my wardrobe because I feel like it goes with a lot, but sometimes my outfits can feel a bit too grey so I thought I would pair this comfy tee with my equally comfy bright blue skater skirt that I nabbed on eBay a couple of years ago.

Today was my first 'official' day of uni so I'm pretty tired now, but I've got a fair bit of tidying and some research to do before I can properly relax! I'm trying desperately to catch up on Breaking Bad before I see any spoilers for tonight's finale but seeing as I'm only on the fourth episode of season one that might be impossible... I think tonight will be spent with a massive packet of dark chocolate digestives watching as many episodes as possible on Netflix.

Desert Island Essentials #12

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, and this week it’s Zoe from That's Zoe.

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?

Oh my, I'm constantly updating my playlist! 'Pompeii' and 'Flaws' by Bastille would be the obvious two, then I'd go for 'I Need Your Love' by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding as well as 'A Team' by Ed Sheeran. Topping it all of with 'Blurred Lines' by Robin Thicke as the silly and meaningless one!

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?

Eastenders, it may sound a bit odd but it's on 4 days a week and full of addictive drama. Exactly what you need when the odds are that you're going to die, distract yourself? Okay, maybe not.

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

Hands down 'The Fault in Our Stars' by John Green, I read it it one day. Practically without putting it down too, I can't recommend it enough. Never in my life have I been so obsessive about something so minimal!

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?

Nando's quarter chicken meal with coleslaw and chips though my Dad's roast could be another possibility? For drinks I'd pick fresh lemonade particularly the ones they sell at M&S or Shake Shack - the burgers place.

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?

Sun cream obviously but that's boring so instead a tinted moisturiser with SPF would be good, I couldn't tell you a really good one as my search is still on! For make-up the 'Revlon Colour-Stay Lip Butter in Sweet Tart' as it always makes me feel complete and confident!

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?

Oh I know right! Blogs would be hard, 'What Olivia Did', 'Zoella', 'Colours and Carousels' and 'Cider with Rosie' would all be highly commended but I think 'Sofia's Journal' would snatch it. Then for YouTube, it would be a toss up between 'Zoella' (again) or 'Troye Sivan' however if push came to shove Zoe would win!

Sister Vintage Haul

All jewellery from Sister Vintage
I've mentioned Sister Vintage before, but when they relaunched last month I couldn't help but treat myself to some more fantastic bargains from their brand new shop. If you didn't already know Sister Vintage offer an amazing range of jewellery for absolutely bargain prices in their Bigcartel shop - but if you see something you like make sure you snap it up quickly, the good stuff disappears fast! All of these gorgeous pieces cost me under £15 including postage which I personally think is amazing value for money, especially considering that even in shops such as Primark necklaces like these would set you back around £5 a piece. I know for a fact that I will continue to order from Sister Vintage and will hopefully be able to pick up some goodies in person at one of the various events they attend around Scotland - you can find out more about these on their Facebook page.

Have you ever ordered from Sister Vintage? If not I wholeheartedly recommend that you do if you're after some pretty pieces for mere pennies.

OOTD - When these walls don't feel like home remember that you're not alone

Top & Skirt - New Look
Shoes - Primark
Lipstick - Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 19
So... it's been a while, eh? It's probably shameful to admit but one of the things I was most worried about regarding my new room was finding somewhere to take outfit photos so they might be all over the place until I settle on a spot. Also the lighting is a wee bit rubbish and awkward to shoot with so bear with me!

I know I've been a bit absent lately but I'm trying to get myself back in to the swing of things - I'd only planned on taking a weekend off not almost two weeks! I'm not going to lie, it's taking me longer than I thought it would to settle in here. I've been a bit miserable and homesick for a while but I'm starting to feel a lot better about it all now. Moving away for university is a massive change and a really intense experience but I guess everyone's in the same boat. Sorry if you've had to put up with all my moaning on Twitter, I'm trying to be a bit more cheerful on there now! I had a bit of a wander around Aberdeen today and it's really starting to grow on me, it's a gorgeous city especially when the weather is as nice as it currently is.

This week is my freshers week and I have my first (and only) induction tomorrow which I'm quite nervous for, then on Wednesday I'm off to visit my best friend in St. Andrews which I am so excited for. On Thursday I'm popping home again for the weekend before my classes properly start next week. Exciting times! I'll hopefully be popping up a little room tour post at some point this week, I'm finally unpacked properly and it's nice and tidy - at least for now...

Desert Island Essentials #11

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, and this week it’s Yuen from The Craziest Paradigm.

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?
This is incredibly hard because I have different songs for different moods! But the ultimate 5 would be:
1. Clarity - Zedd
2. Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
3. Heart on Fire - Jonathan Clay
4. Don't You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia
5. Science With Faith - The Script

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?
Only one?! Definitely How I Met your Mother - that show is hilarious.

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

Probably one of the books in the Harry Potter series! I'm a huge Potterhead and I never get bored of it! Probably the sixth or last book.

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?
I would have red velvet cupcakes and bubble milk tea!

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?
Lip balm! I can't stand chapped lips!

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?
This is a hard one D:
YouTube would be PointlessBlog because his channel makes me laugh all the time and as for blog.... there are so many that I love! But probably Fashiononymous - her style is amazing and she seems to have a great personality!

Catching up

Just a super duper quick note to say that I'm back at home without my camera kit until Friday evening due  to a last minute change of plans so things might be a bit quiet around here until the weekend. I'm also working on putting together some advertising packages so keep an eye out for that!x

Enrapture Encode Totem Styler - First Impressions

Enrapture Encode Totem Styler - Enrapture site/Boots (£20 off!)
So I finally got my hands on it! After spying it with £20 off in Boots and having a £20 voucher to spend I just could not resist. I have naturally curly hair (as you may have noticed) so spending on a fortune on a curling iron seems a bit silly, however I think £20 is a total bargain for this shiny new gadget. Cue my excited first testing documented in some rather awkward photos.

My 'bed head' - I sleep with my hair in plaits and this is it brushed out

My heat defence of choice - Umberto Gianni Natural Curls Styling Spray

I separate my hair in to four sections and clip on top of my head so I can focus on a section at a time

Top layer is 1-2-2 and bottom is 2-2-1

I think it'll take a bit of getting used to, but so far I'm liking it. The main appeal for me really was the different heat options for each section as I like the top of my hair to be curly but not too curly whereas the bottom I like to be pretty curly. I'd say it is pretty easy to use, and I really like how the cable spins round as you twist it to save it getting in the way. At the end of the day, I'm honestly not a big curling iron girl because it just seems like extra effort but this really is perfect for when I want to look that bit more put together. It took me about twenty minutes to do my hair so it will definitely come in handy if I'm in a rush.

Desert Island Essentials #10

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, and this week it’s Amelia from Into My Imagination.

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?
Difficult question,
Florence and the Machine - Dog Days Are Over
Paramore - Still In To You
Gabrielle Aplin - The Power Of Love
Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (but the Cedric Gervais remix version)
Maroon 5 - Misery
Random selection but I love all these songs so much!

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?
For movie it would be 500 days of summer and TV show would be Pretty Little Liars as I've only seen series one but I'm hooked!

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

Probably Michael Morpurgo - The Butterfly Lion as it was the first book of his I've read and also one of my favourites.

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?
Meal would definitely be spaghetti bolognese and the drink would be Sprite (I know its boring but it's my favourite)

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?
Lip balm, I have so many and honestly don't think I could live without one! bit random but hey

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?
The blog would be Ellie's Favourite Things as I love it so much and inspires me for outfits and other things and the YouTube channel would be Zoella as I have been watching her videos for ages and really feel like I can relate to them

Moving On Up

So today's the day I leave Glasgow and head up to my new home city of Aberdeen. I've got a long and stressful day ahead but I'm so excited to be all settled in my new flat and make plenty of new friends. Back with you all as soon as possible, have a lovely weekend x

Life Lately - September

New jewellery & Enrapture Totem Styler (post on both coming soon) // Back to the Future Marathon & pizza feast
Me and my baby brother // last night out in Glasgow // I couldn't resist the bag
One of the best waffles ever // sunset on Oxford Street // Harry Potter studio tour goodies
Butterbeer! // milkshakes with my two best friends // Viper understands me
It's been a busy few weeks! As I'm sure I've mentioned countless times things are a bit of a crazy blur right now with just three days left at home. I've got so much planned for the next few weeks and some exciting things coming up for the blog too so keep your eyes peeled. I've actually managed to keep up this whole daily blogging thing quite well despite it being fully unintentional but I wouldn't be too surprised if things are a tiny bit quiet here over the weekend.

Having been off for a crazy eight months by the time my classes start I think being back in formal education will take a fair bit of getting used to but I will definitely be finding time to keep up this baby so don't worry too much! It'll probably take a bit of time to settle in to a new routine as well as a new city and being surrounded by new people so I just thought I would let you all know what the plan is for Colours & Carousels.

Also - I decided to make a slight tweak to my blog name so instead of colours&carousels/coloursandcarousels it's now Colours & Carousels/Colours and Carousels, it was mostly referred to as that anyway so I thought I may as well go for it!

If you find yourself missing me too much whilst all this is going on you could always catch my stressed out tweets over on Twitter or some more snapshots on Instagram ;)

Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Mascara

YSL Baby Doll mascara - £24.50
So. This was an expensive mascara.

Basically, I was in Selfridges on Oxford Street and I was totally overwhelmed by it all. It's heaven on earth for a beauty addict like myself. I'd seen this mascara featured in quite a few posts and was pretty impressed by it, but put off slightly by it's hefty price tag. However, it just so happens that very morning my beloved Bad Gal Lash had just ran out after a good run so I went a bit crazy and bought it.

After using it for myself for a while, I'm still pretty impressed. Cue awkward & embarrassing eye shots to justify.

(This was my first time applying it, in the past week I've got a LOT better at getting it less clumped)
Although in saying that I do kind of feel like these photos don't quite do it justice. It's a very dark, thickening formula that could be seen as quite clumpy in comparison to mascaras such as Bad Gal but I feel it's a lot less clumpy than the likes of They're Real. Bad Gal definitely gives off a more natural look compared to this which definitely gives off a 'falsies' feel. I'm not a big fan of false eyelashes so definitely think this mascara is perfect, two coats gives me all of the length I need. If I'm feeling lazy when it comes to doing my make up a quick coat of this bad boy instantly makes me look a lot more awake and put together, it is the ideal lazy girl's make up essential.

I'm a big fan of the brush, I do like a plastic brush and this one is perfect for getting the little stubborn lashes left over from my horrid habit of picking at them day and night. The formula is a little bit thicker than I'm used to considering I'd used my last mascara till it was completely dried and obviously in the last few uses it wouldn't have been up to scratch. With a steadier hand and a lash comb on hand it leaves a gorgeous, thick pair of lashes.

All in all it is an amazing mascara which is to be expected considering the price and I do absolutely adore it, but part of me still yearns for my Bad Gal Lash. I think this kind of mascara takes a bit of getting used to, at least for me anyway. I have had quite a few of my friends ask me what mascara I'm wearing so it's clearly one that appeals to other people however lately I've been more of a volume over length/thickness kind of girl when it comes to mascara so it's a fair step up. I'm sure I will be getting a lot of use out of it but it is definitely more of a 'going out' mascara in my eyes rather than for daily wear unless on it's own.

Have you seen this mascara or tried it? What do you think - worth it or not?

Stay out tonight and see through my eyes

Top - Topshop
Skirt - Primark
Something about a plain blank wall just screams 'DO AN OUTFIT POST' at me. At the moment my room is kind of crowded with boxes so there isn't any room at home, however this wall in my bedroom on holiday was perfect.

I love this tartan tee, I think it's a perfect cut, material and pattern for Autumnal dressing. At £30 I would see it as a bit pricey to just buy outright however like I mentioned in my London Haul video I had a lot of Topshop vouchers so it didn't feel like a big purchase. I was planning on pairing it with the necklace that I showed off in my Blogger of the Week post on Mallzee but I forgot to pack it! Sad face.

This is also the debut of my drunken 'I fancy a fringe' hair cut... It's not awful but that one stupid bit of hair does get plain annoying. I usually pin it back so it's not very noticeable but it clearly decided to pop out when I wanted it hidden!

Yesterday I did my last shop in Glasgow and got some amazing bargains that I'm sure I'll be sharing with you when life slows down a bit. I finally got my hands on the Enrapture Totem Styler so I'm pretty darn happy.

4 days to go.

A weekend in Northumberland

On the beach at Bamburgh Castle // the UK's biggest second-hand bookshop // a random picture from our house
Home again for the final time before the big ol' move. I had a lovely little family holiday in Northumberland which was a far cry from being in London the weekend before. We were really lucky with the weather, when we first arrived on Friday the rain was absolutely battering down however the next two days were absolutely beautiful although a tad breezy! We didn't really do much, just visited the beach and Alnwick where the UK's biggest secondhand bookshop (aka heaven) is located.

Now that I'm back it's time for a jam packed week of packing up and saying my last goodbyes. So far I've got a Back to the Future marathon, two dinner dates and a lunch date all planned. It's sad how much I'm dreading saying goodbye to my cat, let alone my friends, boyfriend and family. I've cried so much already and I know that there'll be even more tears to come but I'm beyond excited to get up to Aberdeen and get started at university! And hopefully get a job sorted too. I've already been planning movie nights with my flat mates which I can't wait for - I think we're going to get on perfectly!

Posts planned for this week include a review of my new favourite mascara, an outfit, September wishlist and more.

What are your plans for the week?

Desert Island Essentials #9

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, and this week it’s Tolly from Tolly Dolly Posh.

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?

It would have to be... Hey Ho by The Lumineers, Let's Dance by David Bowie, Ruby by The Kaiser Chiefs, Ya Hey by Vampire Weekend and Roar by Katy Perry.

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?

That's a tough one. For a film it would probably be The Hunger Games but perhaps Skyfall. Both of those films are amazing! If I were to chose a TV show I would probably go with... Top Gear. It's a classic one, even though I'm a 13 year old girl, that show gets it right every time!

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

I know I mentioned this as a film too, but I absolutely loved reading first Hunger Games book. I think I finished it with in 2 weeks! I would definitely read that again!

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?

For a meal I would go with... my mum's Shepherd's Pie. It's so yummy! Mash, mince, peas, gravy, and cheddar on top. Yum! For drink, it would probably be a Cinderella Cocktail (non alcoholic of course!). I'm not sure how the 2 would go down together, but it's the most delicious drink ever. I love it!

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?

I'm not quite sure really... it would probably be Sun Cream. A bit of a boring one but if it was hot, I wouldn't want to be all red and sore. Ew... haha

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?

For the blog, it would have to be Lisette Loves. I love how simple and just gorgeous everything Lisette posts. It always makes me smile! For a YouTube channel, it would be... well, it's a hard decision between Tyler Oakley & Zoella. Both of them are my favourites at the moment.. so... maybe it would be Tyler!

Shopping For University

As of today it is officially one week till I move. I know I talk about it a lot but it is a massive step in my life so I guess you'll all just have to put up with it! I promise I'll stop after I've done the whole HEY MTV WELCOME TO MY CRIB style room tour...

Anyway, seeing as it had been a while since my last university 'advice' post I thought it was about time I did another - this time on the wonderful world of shopping - with a few bits and pieces that I've found useful. When I first got my place at Robert Gordon I sat and wrote a very long list (lists are your friend - seriously) of all of the things I thought I'd need to pack, buy or find about the house. Moving is exciting, but it's also very stressful.

It's important to consider what is essential. For example, in my halls we aren't provided with bedding, which I would say is pretty essential. On the other hand, we also aren't provided with a toaster, and while it is handy to have it is not necessarily essential as y'know, you can make toast on the grill. Another thing that is important to consider is what will be shared between the flat. In our flat we won't get a kettle however my flatmates and I have all decided that we will wait until we are all up there together and just chip in to get a kettle to share instead of us ending up with seven kettles. No one needs seven kettles. I do have a little travel kettle but it was just a cheap thing that I'm planning on keeping in my room for those sneaky midnight cuppas so that I don't end up disturbing my flatmates/having to move too much...

One of my biggest rookie mistakes came with the bedding. The website for my halls claimed the beds were single, but on closer inspection a tiny little asterisk revealed that they were actually a small double. At this point I'd already bought a lovely selection of pretty duvet covers, a duvet itself, sheets and a mattress protector that were all intended for single beds. Cue my distress when I couldn't get the sheets I had in a double size (don't worry I've found more pretty ones!) and having to buy a whole new set of bed linen, duvets etc. Always check thoroughly what size of bed you will have, and also what is & isn't already provided for you, to save any added expense. A quick Google search may come in very handy!

Something that's been important for me has been adding a personal touch to my room. It's not the most luxurious accommodation ever but it will be my new home from home so I want it to feel that way! In the past few months I've been collecting lots of bits and pieces such as photos, posters, fairy lights and pretty bunting to add a few extra touches to my room to make it feel a bit more me. It's important to note that not all halls will allow fairy lights and definitely no candles. Also some halls may be very picky about putting things on the wall but the majority tend to give you some sort of pin board to go crazy on.

I'm so worried in case I've forgotten something but I'm pretty sure I'm all sorted. This is going to be one crazy week. I have two more university posts planned, one about actually moving for university and another about my freshers week experience - both of which will be up after I've actually experienced them!

Do you have any university shopping tips to share?

The London Haul

I've decided that this month I'm going to be trying to get in to YouTube properly and maybe try post at least one video a week as well as my Paperbacks & Beauty Facts video, so what better way to start than with a haul? I thought that I would share all of the things I bought in video form instead of a post as it was a bit easier and seeing as I bought a hell of a lot it would be much quicker for you lovely lot too!

Today I'm feeling slightly delicate after a night out last night and I also have a long journey to Northumberland to manage later on this afternoon... That'll be fun! We're off to stay near Bamburgh in a family friend's cottage which will be a lovely little weekend away (not that I've just got back from one or anything...) It should hopefully be a lot more relaxing than last weekend and definitely less stressful than next - the big move!

Seeing as I'm trying to kick start my channel are there any videos that you would like to see from me? I'm also thinking about vlogging my moving day but I'm not sure if I'll have a lot of time. I did start vlogging my weekend in London but I forgot to take my camera out on the second day which would have made up the bulk of the vlog so decided against it!

Have a lovely weekend x

Killer Queen by Katy Perry

Killer Queen by Katy Perry 100ml (50ml is £27.99 on The Fragrance Shop with free gift)
I feel like I should clear one thing up before I start this post - if it's not already very obvious. I'm a Katy Perry fan, to the extent that I pretty much know her movie word for word, her entire discography is in my most played playlist on iTunes, I have four massive posters of her, once coloured my hair pink when seeing her live and now own all three of her perfumes. BUT I'm going to try contain my fangirling for this post.

I know I just bought another perfume recently, however when I saw this advertised in the window of a perfume shop I knew I had to buy it. I actually went a bit crazy and bought the biggest bottle they had without even smelling it first... Katy's previous perfumes, Meow & Purr, are two of my all time favourites not just because of the celebrity name but because they do really smell gorgeous. Killer Queen is no different.

Sadly, the bottle is not cat shaped like her previous two offerings however it is still very pretty. The packaging in general is very in keeping with the whole regal theme and the bottle just screams royalty. Despite it's pleasing appearance I'm not a massive fan of the shape of  this bottle as it means that it can't be stood upright so takes up a bit more room on my desk - although not a massive amount.

Now on to the smell itself. According to my online sources it consists of notes of plum, red velvet flower, berry and bergamot. To be honest I don't really have a clue if it smells like these, I'm awful at distinguishing scents in perfumes, but I confirm it smells delicious. To me, it's a more mature combination of her previous two sickly sweet concoctions which lingers for hours. I for one think it was the perfect addition to my perfume collection, the fact that it's a Katy Perry brand perfume is just an added bonus for the fangirl in me.

Are you a fan of any celebrity perfumes? Does a celebrity's name on the bottle push you to buy?
