OOTD - When I'm wiser and I'm older

Dress - Rebel Rebel *
Shoes - Primark
Lips - MUA Power Pout in "Crazy in Love"
Nails - Rimmel "Mary, Mary Quite Contrary"
Toes - Leighton Denny "Supermodel"
This dress will from here on out be known as my birthday princess dress. After all, what's a birthday without something pretty to wear? I for one have a long standing tradition of buying myself a new outfit for when my birthday rolls around, however this year I just wasn't liking anything in the shops and was starting to get a bit fed up.

Step in my guardian angel - Rebel Rebel. Before I knew it this gorgeous dress had appeared and I knew it was the one. This gorgeous coral dress is super flattering and a steal at only £17! It isn't a colour that I would usually pick as the gingery tones in my hair tend to make me look a bit silly in pink, however I actually love this shade and it looks great with a tan (which you can't really see in the photos...). The dress itself feels so much more expensive than £17 and is great quality, will definitely be seeing a few more nights out!

After having another browse of the Rebel Rebel site since they've added a few more pieces I've had my eye on a couple more items, like this pretty top which I know I would get plenty of wear out of and this gorgeous monochrome skirt which reminds me a bit of the floral patterned tea dresses that are making the rounds at the moment.

Finally, I just want to say a big thank you to everyone for all of the birthday wishes, I had an absolutely amazing day xxx

Budget Bucket List

I was recently tagged in a couple of the 'Budget Bucket List' posts that are about another great competition run by the lovely folk over at MoneySupermarket. The basic idea is that you choose one budget experience and one super extravagant experience and explain what's been holding you back so far. One lucky winner wins £1000 towards their bucket list (or £2000 if over 50 people enter!) and four runners up win £50 each. For more details on the competition you can have a peek at their website here. It's taken me a while to get round to posting this as I just couldn't decide!

Budget

My sewing machine from John Lewis - £49
Something I really want to learn to do at the moment is sew. I have a sewing machine, but I've never used it properly and I've decided that it's really about time that I finally take it for a spin. I know how to use it and I can do some basic stitching, but I really need to have a proper go at it and hopefully make something semi decent. I think the only reason I've not used it properly yet is lack of materials & skill, but I think if I got myself some pretty fabric and a simple pattern to start out with I could be okay!

Blowout

(sourced from Pinterest)
For my blowout choice, I'd definitely go for a holiday. It's a very typical 'oh if I won this amount of money I'd take my family away' type choice, but I would absolutely love to be able to treat my whole family to a massive holiday. Some of my best memories as a child are from our holidays, in particular a group of cottages in Yorkshire and our annual Christmas jaunt to Blackpool, but sadly it's been a few years since we've all had a holiday together for various reasons. If I had to choose one place I would have to go for Disney, because I think it offers something for everyone and is the perfect family destination.

So to finish off, I need to tag three other bloggers to take part! I tag:

What's on your bucket list?

Eighteen

Passing my exams - getting my provisional & student card - applying to university
visiting Aberdeen for the first time - getting my first job - last Christmas dance - losing my beautiful boy
getting in to my first choice of course - Valentine's day - visiting Aberdeen again
leaving school - St Patrick's - the closest thing to seeing my favourite artist - meeting Hayley
last day of school - leaver's dinner - 3 years with my boyfriend - first girl's holiday
getting on Bloglovin's up and coming list - finding out my university flat - becoming a blood donor

As of today, the 29th of July, I am legally an adult. I for one find that crazy, I do not feel 18, I definitely don't look 18 and I probably don't act 18. 17 was a huge year for me, and looking back at all of my photos - even just on Instagram - I realise just how quickly the year went. Alongside massive milestones such as getting my first job, learning to drive, leaving school and getting in to university I met some amazing people, both through blogging and not, and also lost some such as my beautiful kitten Hamish. I can't imagine the past year without my little blog by my side and I just want to say thank you to all of you for sticking by me. 18 is going to be even bigger than the last, so much is going to change, but I can't wait. The world is my oyster and all the rest of that clichéd crap.

Desert Island Essentials #3

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, and this week it’s Char from http://hell0imchar.blogspot.co.uk/.

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?

On Melancholy Hill - Gorillaz
I'll Follow You In To The Dark - Death Cab For Cutie
Almost - Bowling For Soup
Star Girl - McFly
Don't You Want Me - The Human League

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?

How I met your mother would have to be it, or maybe peep show!! I can't choose :( maybe the desert island government will be nice and fly in a hot guy to wire up another show? ;)
If I really had to choose though, I guess I'd spend my time watching How I Met Your Mother from start to finish and wishing I was Robyn :(

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, it's a beautiful book and has me in tears every time. I was going to say the shining, or Bag Of Bones, but I don't want to be shitting myself on a desert island...

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?

I'd pretty much live off Diet Coke my whole time there. My faveeeee. I could totally catch some fish for my dinner!

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?
A moisturising 50SPF sunscream so I don't burn and look like a lobster.

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?

The first blog to spring to mind was Water Painted Dreams. I'd rather have Hayley all over my screen than some big top blogger. Her 'what makes me happy' posts would be more than enough to keep me satisfied!
I'm not really sure about a YouTube channel, I hardly watch them anymore. I'd probably go with charlieissocoollike.

A Day In Glasgow

As I mentioned yesterday I spent Thursday shopping and eating in Glasgow with Hayley & Louise before we later met up with Morag, and I thought I'd share a few foodie snaps as well as my rather large haul with you all. I've been trying to incorporate a lot more food on the blog so I think the combination of a food event and a very nice meal out will help me do just that!

Hayley particularly fancied a trip to Forever 21 after I raved so much about it, and I wasn't one to turn down a visit! However I strangely didn't really fancy any of the clothes, which has been the same for most shops at the moment, and instead opted for some pretty little earrings for my forward helix and a pair of gorgeous monochrome heels which I had been after since the day the store opened back in March.

Where clothing lacked, beauty definitely picked up the slack. I managed to add two new MAC lipsticks to my collection - Mehr and Lovelorn - whilst also repurchasing The Porefessional and a travel bottle of Fix+. The Body Shop were selling their amazing body butters at half price so I snapped up a pink grapefruit one as well as the hand sanitiser and a raspberry lip balm for my bag. In Boots I bought two new nail polishes from Rimmel - Oh Boy You're So Fine! and Mary Mary Quite Contrary which are two lovely purple shades, the latter being so pale it's almost white. A blogger shopping trip is not complete without a visit to Lush and I ended up picking up A Breath of Fresh Air toner, Sweetie Pie shower jelly, Creamy Candy bubble bar and a sample of Karma soap.

All in all a pretty good haul, I'd say! I will be doing mini reviews/swatches of the two MAC lipsticks as well as the nail polishes, Lush goodies and The Body Shop products at some point next week so keep an eye out.

After we'd finished shopping we popped to Zizzi's in Royal Exchange Square for a bite to eat which was absolutely delicious, I had mozzarella and dough sticks to start with a pizza Florentina for my main while Hayley opted for a calzone and Louise had the spaghetti. None of us had ever tried Zizzi's before and I think we were all pleasantly surprised! The meal was lovely and very reasonably priced, and the building itself was stunning.

I had a lovely day with these fab ladies and can't wait to do it all again, hopefully with a bit less thunder this time!

Street Food @ Sloans Launch

Damn, writing this post is making me hungry all over again.

So, yesterday I ventured in to Glasgow with Hayley and Louise for a spot of shopping before meeting up with Morag and heading to the launch of Sloans' new Street Food menu to have a peek at their new sharing platters. I can safely say that the food was good. Very good. And that's coming from someone who is quite fussy about their food!

Sloans have just launched a new menu with five different sharing meals, three meals served over delicious chips and two yummy platters. These meals are:

The Cowboy - BBQ chicken wings and ribs, blue cheese dressing and hot sauce
The Gringo - Beef chilli, cheese and jalapenos
The Mac Daddy - Extra cheesy macaroni with crispy bacon or onion rings and salsa (the onion rings were damn good)
The Soprano Platter - Cured salami, cheese, olives, grilled peppers and bread
The Stavros - Hummus, falafel, roast veg, olives and flat bread with feta cheese or merguez sausage

We were lucky enough to sample them all, and I have to say that The Cowboy was pretty good! I would probably pop back and get another for lunch at some point. They're priced at £9.95 between two people which I would say is really good value for money considering the portion sizes and quality of food.

In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have eaten a two course meal before going to a food event, but I'll bear that in mind for next time. If you're ever in Glasgow I would definitely recommend checking out Sloans in the city centre, it's tucked out of the way of all of the hustle and bustle and is really worth a visit.

Recently Reading

When the summer finally rolls around I always seem to get hooked on reading. Don't get me wrong, I read all year, but come the summer it goes full scale. Last year on a ten day holiday I read 17 books. This year on holiday I actually only read four in the week as I spent a lot less time reading, seven noisy flat mates can be quite distracting! Something I've noticed that has made a real difference to my reading speed is my Kindle, which I got for my birthday last year (4 days). I've always been a bit of a speedy reader but since getting my Kindle I've been zipping through books in no time at all, for example I read all three Hunger Games books in a day... This year, Tesco have had some great offers on paperbacks so I've been buying physical books a bit more than usual but I've still read a good few on my Kindle.

Billy & Me by Giovanna Fletcher
I'm not going to lie, I did buy this book because Gi is married to Tom Fletcher from McFly. However it was thoroughly enjoyable and did move me to tears (I had to explain to our Greek maid on holiday why I was sitting on the balcony crying my eyes out, it was difficult). Billy & Me is pretty standard chick lit, it's definitely an easy summer read. I think it could have been better, but it was still a really good read. I have very high hopes for Giovanna's future works!
I would give Billy & Me 3 out of 5 stars

Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
I picked up Revenge Wears Prada expecting to love it, I loved Devil Wears Prada - book and film - however this book was pure disappointment. I don't quite know what happened to Andy but I just don't like her as a character any more. I think I would prefer this book more as a standalone, it didn't really feel like a sequel as it was just so different, and from having a peek at Goodreads it would appear that a lot of people agree.
I would give Revenge Wears Prada 1 and a half out of 5 stars

Joyland by Stephen King
Joyland is a fantastic book, standard Stephen King genius. It's gripping and thrilling from the very start, however I found it a tiny bit tame compared to some of his other works. I do prefer psychological horror to crime/murder etc so I think that's why it wasn't quite perfect for me but I did still love it and would thoroughly recommend it to any Stephen King fan or someone who likes a good old murder novel!
I would give Joyland 4 out of 5 stars

An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
I love John Green's books, he writes some fantastic stuff, however An Abundance of Katherine's just didn't do it for me. I think purely because not a lot really happens in it! As per usual it is expertly written and I did find it quite difficult to put down, but I felt like I was constantly waiting for something more to happen. It was a very enjoyable read however not Green's best.
I would give An Abundance of Katherines 3 out of 5 stars

Shades Of Grey by Jasper Fforde
I downloaded Shades Of Grey (not to be confused with Fifty Shades..) after I saw Hayley post about it in a book haul and knowing she has a great taste in books I took the plunge. Shades of Grey is basically dystopian fiction which I have really been loving lately. I found it a bit confusing at first but quickly became sucked in to this world where your rank in society is decided by how well you can see colour. I personally can't wait for the sequel, I need to find out more about this world and the 'Something That Happened' that left it the way it is. If you're in to dystopian fiction then I have a feeling you will love this just as much as I did.
I would give Shades Of Grey 5 out of 5 stars

The 5th Wave by Rick Vancey
This is another book that I bought on recommendation from Hayley and soon became engrossed in. I'm not a massive fan of aliens, I can't bring myself to watch alien related films as they creep me out so much, so this book gave me some serious shivers and I'm kind of surprised it didn't give me nightmares. The 5th Wave focuses on three characters and their life on Earth after four waves of an alien attack, it's so cleverly written and I'm desperate to read the sequel now.
I would give The 5th Wave 5 out of 5 stars

If you want to keep up with what I'm reading you can find me on Goodreads here.

MAC Viva Glam III & Captive

Left: MAC Viva Glam III, Right: MAC Captive - £15 each (or £12.50 at duty free!)

Our crazy weather has resulted in some major lighting differences here, apologies!
Taking these photos has made it painfully apparent that I cannot apply lipstick for the life of me.

Moving on. It's no secret that MAC lipsticks seem to be in pretty much every blogger's make up bags and I know that I for one can't walk past the counter in House of Fraser without trying at least 5 then crying about the price tag (seriously MAC, stop it with the constant price rises!). At the moment I only own two, one was bought with a gift card and the other was bought at duty free.

I feel that Viva Glam III is actually a lot darker than I would usually go for, so I very rarely get any wear out of it but lately I've been trying to use it more often. It's a slightly burgundy colour with a matte finish - which I don't find all that matte. I went for a matte finish as I do tend to stick to matte lipsticks (Kate Moss for Rimmel anyone?) however I'm not sure what it is about the finish of this lipstick that I'm not all too keen on. As this is slightly darker I do tend to save it for evening wear, I find it a bit too vampy for daily use, but come autumn/winter this year I'm hoping to have the guts to pull it off during the day.

Captive was my second MAC purchase which was acquired at duty free before my holiday this year and is a gorgeous pinky colour with slight purple tones in the satin finish. Since getting this lipstick almost a month ago I have worn it pretty much every day. It's a really great every day colour as it's obvious that you're wearing a lipstick but it's not too in your face like a red lip can sometimes be. I do really like the finish of this lipstick, but I've found that the wear time isn't great if you've been eating or drinking and it tends to fade quite obviously, leaving you with a pink line round the outer edge of your lips... not the most attractive look.

Tomorrow I'm going shopping with some lovely bloggers before we pop along to an event (will post more about that at the weekend!) but I have a few vouchers for MAC and House of Fraser so I'm thinking about treating myself to a couple more lipsticks, possibly Creme Cup and Girl About Town but only time will tell!

What are your favourite MAC lipsticks and which finish do you prefer so far?

Share The Love - July

I was intending on sharing a little outfit today, but the weather has taken a turn for the worse and instead I am cowering away from the thunder... This month's favourites include two new discoveries, Naomii & Jessica, as well as Hannah who I've followed on Tumblr pretty much since I got it three or four years ago and have loved her blog since she started it. Highly recommend you go check these three out if you're after some rainy day reading material!

Desert Island Essentials #2

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, and this week it’s Kayleigh from http://kayspray.blogspot.co.uk/.

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?

1. Stay by Rihanna
2. Misery Business by Paramore
3. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
4. Take a Chance on Me by ABBA
5. Little Talks by Monsters and Men

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?

Pride & Prejudice 2005 film - a film I've watched a million times and could watch a million more!

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll as an all time favourite, if not a Ben Elton book.

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?

I don't think I could get bored of pizza (only one way to find out!) and I would need to satisfy my chocolate cravings so a chocolate milkshake (preferably from Shakeaway) with bits of smarties in it.

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?

Since I was young I have loved the smell of Malibu sun lotion. I used it on my holiday in June and never want to part from it again!

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?

http://thenectarcollective.com/ would be my go to blog. It's a blog full of great posts and lots of positivity! Jenna Marbles is my favourite YouTube sensation. She would keep me sane! (more like insane..)

July Wishlist

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
Surprisingly enough I'm not loving any clothes at the moment, which is annoying seeing as my 18th is in 10 days and I can't find anything to wear... However there are plenty of other things catching my eye, one being phone cases. I'm really struggling to find a pretty phone case that is affordable but it's probably because I'm very fussy and have quite a set idea of what I want. These 3 from Casetagram are probably the closest to what I'm looking for, but they feel a bit pricey for someone who rarely pays over £2 for a case! I would really love an aztec type case that incorporates a Hamsa and an Evil Eye but no such luck as of yet.

I move to Aberdeen all by myself in just under two months. Two months. That is crazy! I've been picking out pictures that I want printed to have on my wall, but I would really love a digital photo frame too just so I can have all of my little memories in one place.

Now, I said that there wasn't much I liked fashion-wise, but there is definitely a lot beauty wise. Especially from Benefit and Mac! If I could only pick one 'must have' right now it would definitely this kit from Benefit as it has everything that I'm currently wanting to try however after my birthday I might just take the plunge and go mental buying everything I'm after...

How pretty are these Vans? I was obsessed with a turquoise pair for a while but they have been blown away by this lovely mint pair. I've never owned a pair before but after trying them on in Schuh I have made it my mission to add them to my shoe collection.

Last but not least, I miss Gossip Girl. Enough said.

Don't forget to enter my giveaway for your chance to win a beautiful 16 carat gold bracelet

OOTD - I got this feeling on a summer day

Shirt & Necklace - Forever 21
Skirt - Primark
Lace Cycling Shorts - eBay
Shoes - New Look
I love Icona Pop's current single, I'm not going to lie, it is insanely catchy. In Kavos we decided it was our 'holiday song' so when I hear it I can't help but think of belting it out with my friends at ridiculous times in the morning as we wandered along the strip.
This was my intended outfit yesterday, however just taking these photos left me melting and I swapped to a slightly cooler t-shirt instead - damn you deceiving clouds! I do love warm weather but I'm starting to get a teeny bit fed up of it now, but I know if we returned to our usual awful summer weather I'd be moaning about wanting the heat back!
At the moment my diary is pretty much chock a block full of driving lessons (my test is creeping up!) but tomorrow I'm going to the zoo to see the penguins/pandas then on Saturday I'm off to visit the isle of Arran with my mum and dad. Another thing that's creeping up is my 18th birthday... I can't believe it's only 11 days! 18 makes me feel I should be a lot more grown up... I've been feeling like that a lot lately, especially as I've found out where I'm going to be living in Aberdeen come September and met a few of my lovely flatmates - scary stuff!

Currently Loving: Bamble Vintage

Evening Gown - Cardigan
If you, like me, love Etsy then you will know it is a total treasure trove of beautiful handmade and vintage items. One shop in particular caught my eye recently and I just thought I'd share!
Bamble Vintage is run by the very lovely Soph and houses some fantastic vintage gems such as this amazing evening gown and gorgeous floral cardigan amongst various other blouses, bags and more. I've found that some vintage can be really overpriced, however Soph's treasures are very reasonably priced and definitely great value for money. I do love finding a little gem of a shop like Bamble Vintage, it's always nice knowing that you can buy something unique that (hopefully) no one else will have. I hope you all take the time to check the items out!

Have you found any great little shops recently? I love finding unique stores so please drop me a line if you have. <3

Recipe - Curly Wurly Pie

I realised it had been a while since I had posted a recipe so thought I would share this delicious treat with you all. My mum had shown me this recipe for a 'Curly Wurly Pie' which was something I had never tried - or heard of - before but sounded like heaven in a flan tin.

Ingredients:
4 Cadbury's Curly Wurlys
300g Hob Nobs (or suitable alternatives, basically any oat biscuits or digestives would probably be okay)
300ml double cream
100g melted unsalted butter
200g plain chocolate
100g milk chocolate (I found it really rich with 200g plain and 100g milk so I may go for 150g of each next time)
1 tin Carnation caramel

For decoration:
300ml double cream
1 tbsp icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Cadbury's Curly Wurly
Piping bag

For best results I would definitely use a flan tin (one where the bottom comes out) so that you can actually get the pie out, but if you don't mind eating it straight from the tin then any old cake/pie tin would do!

Method:

Crush the biscuits in to crumbs and mix with the melted butter before pressing in to your chosen tin then left to refrigerate. The original recipe says to leave overnight but I left it in on it's own for about ten minutes before adding the rest of the mixture and leaving it all in together which turned out fine.

Boil 300ml of cream in the microwave (took approximately 2 minutes for me) then break the chocolate in to pieces and mix until you have a delicious smooth chocolatey goo - try not to eat... it's addictive.

Pour the majority of the chocolate mix on to the biscuit base but leave a bit for decoration/eating then return the tin to the fridge, I left it in there for about 45 minutes.

Chop up 4 Curly Wurlys (easier when cold) in to reasonably small pieces and mix with the tin of caramel until smooth - don't over mix! Spread the caramel mix over the base and leave to cool in fridge. I left mine for about four hours and it was still a bit gooey, it just depends on how cold your fridge is and how solid you want it!

I didn't have 600ml of cream for this so decided to skip the decoration part aside from the extra chocolate but if you fancy doing this whisk the remaining cream, icing sugar and vanilla essence until it forms peaks and pipe rosettes (or just blob) around the edge for a little bit of extra snazziness. You can also chop up the remaining Curly Wurly and use that but I just ate mine instead... oops. Drizzle the remainder of the chocolate mix on top and return to fridge until you want to serve! (I don't even want to think about how many calories are in this)

Hope you enjoy this if you give it a go, it is absolutely delicious! I'm trying to get a few more recipe posts up on here while I have the time off before uni so keep an eye out for more yummy treats! If you have any recommendations for things to make please do let me know :)

Desert Island Essentials #1

The other day I had an idea for a little blog series based on the age old question 'what would you take if you were stranded on a desert island?'. To make it a little bit more interesting I've made up my own questions, and I want you to be involved! Every Sunday I'll be asking a different blogger what their Desert Island Essentials are, so if you would like to be involved follow the instructions at the end of the post.

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island in the middle of the ocean without a person in sight, however not to worry, as this island is pretty luxurious compared to some others! I’m asking a different blogger every week what their desert island essentials are, this week - seeing as it's the first week - I'm going to answer the questions myself!

On your lovely little desert island you find an iPod, however it can only hold 5 songs - which five songs would you choose?

1. The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson
2. Any Other Way by We The Kings
3. Part of Me by Katy Perry
4. National Anthem by Lana Del Rey
5. Free by Twin Atlantic

Surprisingly, there is also a TV on the island! But, you can only pick one movie or TV show to watch for your time here, what would you choose?

House M.D, no doubt about it. I need my Hugh Laurie!

Before you were stranded you were carrying a book, what one book would you want to have on the island with you?

Definitely something by Stephen King, if I had to choose one it would be 11.22.63, it's amazing.

Obviously, you’re not going to be left to starve. If you could only have 1 meal and 1 drink a day what would it be?

I think for my one drink it would be sicilian lemon juice or chocolate milkshakes from the cafe down the road, and for my meal it would either be spag bol or a Subway - turkey, double cheese, cucumber and ranch sauce on Italian, yum!

When stranded on your island what would your must have beauty essential be?
If I was being boring I'd say suncream, but otherwise it would be the Boots Coconut & Almond leave in conditioner.

Everywhere has WiFi these days, right? Well your island does! However you are limited to one blog and one YouTube channel - who would you choose?

If I could only have one blog it would probably be Hayley's as she posts such a great variety and I love every single one. One YouTube channel is easy, it will always be CTFxC.

If you want to be part of my Desert Island Essentials series e-mail me at coloursandcarouselsblog@gmail.com with the subject ‘Desert Island Essentials’ and I will add you to my list. <3
