Guest Post: The Tiger's Wife

THIS IS A GUEST POST BY THE LOVELY HAYLEY OF WATER PAINTED DREAMS - SHE IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BLOGGERS AND I HOPE YOU CHECK OUT HER BLOG IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY!

I wandered over to one of the ipads in the O2 store whilst my friend was topping up her phone credit and started up one of the ereader apps. Normally ereader apps are filled with old, romantic classics that quite frankly, do not interest me but I noticed a book called The Tiger's Wife and then opened it up. By the time my friend came over so we could leave, I was totally enthralled in the introduction. I couldn't find it in Waterstones but then ordered it when I managed to find it online. The Tiger's Wife is made up of two parts: a girl, Natalia, searching for the truth about her grandfather's death and her grandfather's experiences growing up in a town where an outcasted mute girl was believed to be in love with an escaped tiger. Personally, I enjoyed reading about her grandfather's experiences a lot more than reading about Natalia's. They were both good stories, however, they didn't intertwine at all and it's a little bit confusing. I was expecting her to make a connection between the two stories and for there to be a massive revelation. This is set in eastern Europe during the time of great political unrest which makes it really hard for Natalia to actually get anywhere with the mystery of her grandfather's death, which kind of made that half of the story a little boring. I much prefered the folk lore style storytelling of her grandfather, and would have liked the book more if it consisted soley of that. But all in all, I did enjoy reading it and would read it again!
