The Blogosphere: From the Perspective of a 15yr Old.

Now that all my technical difficulties are out of the way (you'll meet my new best friend rather soon) I'm going to try get this post done, it's been in the back of my mind for a while.

See, I'm not a very big person, and the 'blogosphere' is a very big place. I first got into blogging after reading some of my favourites such as LilyAydenGem and Gem. I didn't think I'd have much to write about but decided to give it a crack anyway, so here I am a good few months later wittering on to my ten followers.
Being only 15 there are a lot of differences between me and the majority of you. I don't have a job, I don't go to university, I buy the majority of my wardrobe from Primark, I'm no makeup expert, it goes on. I spend almost seven hours of my day in school, and the rest either doing homework, studying like mad or posting pointless updates on twitter and facebook. I don't do exciting things, especially not at the moment. Right now my main priority is passing my exams so I can hopefully get to do what I want to do in life. I have just under five weeks until I go on study leave, which is scarily close.
Anyway, I read blogs every day about everyone else's lives and wardrobe, and I just feel that I don't compare. I love blogging, I love reading them, they're a place of inspiration for me. I keep seeing posts about people reaching massive benchmarks, 100, 200, even 1000 followers, and I just think to myself "I'm never going to reach that."
The blogosphere can be a great place, but then again sometimes nastiness rears its head. The internet isn't a nice place, speaking through text is not the same as face to face, and nowadays with anonymous features, and sites like formspring, it's got worse. Not having a name makes people think that they have the right to belittle, upset and hurt people, when in reality they don't. Nobody is perfect, everyone has flaws, and people don't need them constantly being pointed out to you. Some people seem to think that you have to be super pretty, skinny, smart, have disposable income, be awesome at nail art, dress well and be a dab hand with a camera to be a popular blog (well with the ones I read anyway..) but I just don't see it that way. If you have an opinion, voice it. I like to see how other people look at the world, I don't care what they look like or how they dress, I just like a good nosey at other peoples views tbh!
I see myself as quite an opinionated person, I like to argue my point, but only if I see sense in it. Things like disarming nuclear weapons, lowering the voting age, minimum pricing on alcohol, and so on. There are a lot of preconceptions and judgements of my generation, people seem to think that we're all binge drinkers, on drugs and destined to get pregnant at the age of 15 then drop out of school, that is far from the truth. Most of us want to make something of ourselves, go somewhere in life.

Okay well I got kind of off topic there, but when I start ranting I just can't stop sometimes. I don't really feel that there's a point to this post, but it's my blog, I'll write about what I want, how I feel, not what people want me to be.

  1. Firstly, thank you for the mention here girlie. And secondly, what a fab post. You hit the nail on the head here, and to be honest so much of the blogging world is the biggest load of shite ever. But in amongst that you find proper gems, 'real' people with genuine chat, and 'real' life stories to give us a little snippet into. I much prefer the bloggers with opinions, rather than the ones with fashiony catwalk pictures, and reviewing the same products over and over again. Just you keep doing what youre doing, and the readers will find you :) I wish I was as level headed as you at 15! I take my hat off to you miss xx

It means so much to me that people take the time to comment, and I really appreciate each and every one. I try to reply to all of them but I am pretty forgetful, so if you have a burning question that you would like me to answer please drop me a tweet @colourscarousel or email me!
